Just ditched my iPhone4s for Lumia.
Great phone so far. However, few things are bugging me.

Vibration: Is it possible to enable/disable vibration from the stand by mode? I know some android phone can do this by pressing the volume button. Not in WP?

Alarm: In alarm, is it possible to dismiss without pressing the dismiss button? In iPhone all I had to was swipe the screen.

IE: Cursor in ie seems horrible. If I need to edit something in the middle of the sentence I need to bring the cursor from the very end to the place I need to edit, also there is no spell checker.

Regarding vibration: don't think so. At some point several years back it seems like "smartphone" makers decided this should become difficult. Not sure if there was something with patents ongoing on. I still had my OG Droid when the last official update actually disabled that and you had to go toggle it off separately.

My wife's flip phones, meanwhile, have no problem with this.

(Also, don't expect to charge with the phone off.)

No, you can not cut off vibration from standby.

Stock alarm is only dismiss button, hitting any key is snooze. You can definitely look in the marketplace for others. There are some great ones.

IE cursor has changed since wp8.0. When you click a word the whole word is highlighted. To move the cursor where you want, tap the word twice slowly. There is a spell checker.

For spell checker, make sure you've installed the keyboard, note that your Lumia shows an update when there's a keyboard which must be installed

MS should step up and do something about the vibration. Just this setting makes them look very old. iPhone has the smart switch to turn on/off vibration since the beginning.

When I hold a word in ie, it doesn't highlight however cursor seems to move yet appears invisible, so it's hard to know if it moved and sometime it doesn't. Spell checker seems ok now.

In the alarm app, pressing the volume button doesn't seem to snooze, just stops the alarm. I literally have to press the screen button to either snooze or dismiss.

You're new to OS, your first week, and started to complain about the OS and compare it with IOS.
Love as is, WP is a unique OS you'll find alot of awesome things, and I promise that soon you'll find that you had nothing, and this is the OS that should live!!
