Hello,
Am I able to set my internet network sharing name to be hidden while on? I have a password but I would rather NOT have people detect it.

Same thing for Bluetooth - can i have it on, but name hidden?

If so, how?

Thanks,

Mr. V

as for bluetooth, isn't it hidden automatically when NOT in the bluetooth menu? As for wifi, my 920 did the same until recently (after a hard reset)

Thanks for the input!

I humbly disagree.

If you cannot see it, it is a deterrent. While not 100% fool proof, it offers something.

I also don't want the name of my network showing up for others to see. Is it possible to make my networks hidden on my Lumia 930?

I know on a full Windows OS you can set you BT to be hidden but on.

I know with some routers you can hide the name, so to connect to them, they are considered 'hidden'.

That's what I am curious about.

I am just asking it is possible to hide my network name.

it's a very mild deterrent, and offers very little and it's a bit less secure overall.

As for Bluetooth, if you are not in the bluetooth menu, your device is not discoverable. i have been scanning for a few minutes now, and my imac cannot see my lumia. it can once i go into the bluetooth menu. it even states in the bluetooth menu:

"While on this screen, your phone will search for Bluetooth devices and be discoverable"

while not on the screen, you can stay connected to devices you already synced to, but cannot scan to new devices, nor be found by other devices.

^^^ is correct.
But I also can not find a way to hide the network name from my 930.
I only can change it. So maybe changing it regular is an option for you.
One more point is if you have paired your phone with your tablet and on both devices the bluetooth is switched on. You will see the network name of your phone on your tablet (available networks) even if you did not switch on your internet sharing on your phone. And if you tap on the phone network name, on your tablet, the internet sharing will be automatically switched on on you phone. (don't need to use a password or whatever)
