How do I recover my old favourites list which disappeared on upgrading to windows 10 from windows 7?

I am not very good with computers and this computer with windows 7 was my first pc. When I accepted the upgrade to windows 10 I didn't expect my old favourites list (with nearly 1,000 weblinks) to disappear and I desperately want the list back. I back up with a wd my passport ultra - but don't really understand how that works either - would my old favourites list be on there? What can I do to get it back? In simple language please!! If your favorites were in Internet Explorer in Windows 7, you can try to see if you can import them into Microsoft Edge. Open Microsoft Edge, click on the ... (three dots) at the top right and click on Settings. Click on "Import Favorites from another browser." Make sure Internet Explorer is checked and then click Import. Let us know if that solves the problem or else we can check to see if they have been backed up or not.
