How to stop windows 10 crashing when I start up after sleep

When I put the PC to standby/sleep and then turn it back on the system crashes with the screen changing colours and is unresponsive to any key or mouse. I have to switch off and then switch on to reboot.

How can I stop the PC crashing?

I have just upgraded from Windows 7

Have you tried checking for updates? They released a cumulative update earlier in the week that fixed some bugs. This may be one of them.
