I can't seems to find it.
I've seen pictures of people following stock prices with cortana

Go to cortana-> interests. Click on the plus sign below, click on news -> business headlines! (or) in the above search box search box there itself search for the company's stock ex(Manchester united stocks) and click on the first label that appears. After that when ever a new news comes in you'll be notified.

hm doesn't seem to work.
I tried adding Microsoft stock but nothing shows up when Cortana opens.

wp_ss_20140517_0001[1].png Actually it took 1-2 hours for cortana to bring me first headlines on my custom made "FIFA World Cup 2014" it doesn't show you the the new in news column it just notifies you for custom tasks

Type the stock (MSFT, for example) you want to add into the search and then it should have the option to "show *stock name* updates".

^hm that didn't work. all I get is "news about msft" and it's apparently as generic like before.

I don't know, it worked for me. (see pictures)

hm so is there like a separate finance section that's hidden somewhere? do I need some specific command to get the finance section up?

Instead of trying to add it from within Cortana's Interests settings just type MSFT in Cortana's search area like you would for any normal search. When you do that, you'll see the MSFT stock chart show up and underneath that is where you'll see the verbiage "Show MSFT updates". If you click on that, the stock will be added to your interests. Hope this helps
