How does device encryption effect UX?

I have a Lumia 950 and am intersted in switching on device encrytion to protect my data should phone ever be stolen/lost.

But firstly I would be interested to know how it may effect the day-to-day usage of the phone. Will battery life be shortened? Will I be required to enter the PIN to sign in *every* time I want to dismiss the lock screen instead after the 15 minutes I've set it to? And related to the last question, when the phone is locked will I still be able to click the camera button to launch the camera app and take photos immediately or will I be held up for a short while to sign-in?

It has no affect on any of the things you've mentioned. Full device encryption is completely independent of everything else.
