Update: I just got some additional detailed info from our Director of Engineering for you...
Wodin,
You bring up a good point. With the current version of our firmware and drivers you do in fact need to look directly at the version you have installed and then compare it to the version of the files we have posted on our website. We haven’t listed the version specifically in text on the web page for various reasons, but now that you bring this up we will address that need as quickly as possible. Part of the reason is that we have been releasing on a fairly consistent 90 day cycle (ie February, May, August and …) and thus have been able to keep all the files synched to the same version of source code. Because we are on such a rapid cycle, by the time we get “beta” drivers to a point at which they are stable and free from serious issue, we are generally about ready to ship out again and so we have not released incremental interim beta builds. Our focus has really been to support more and more Windows Mobile phones as quickly as possible, while making sure that any changes are regressed on the “old” phones as we go.
We are currently working on an “opt-in” program that will allow you to choose to get email updates, our newsletter, website changes, new product releases, etc. We can add driver and firmware updates to this process so you can be proactively notified when anything changes. Until this program is in place, we hope that our customers will just check our website frequently. Also, we have implemented a “visual” way to check the version of our software via a naming convention. More on this later.
The version of the drivers and firmware publicly posted today is build 1.3.29 universally. To check the version of the phone driver you have installed, select the REDFLY icon in Settings > System > REDFLY Settings and in the about tab of that window you will see the version of the Phone Driver. To find the version of the firmware you are running on the REDFLY, hit the Fn + RF key (the Red Stylized R logo). A window will pop up. Check the FW Version value, which at this point in time should also be 1.3. 29. If you have this version (Released or Beta) you have the latest and greatest, for now…
Hope this helps,
Laurie
