How Much Better?

Hey folks;

So I have an ancient ASUS ROG laptop with a core i7 720QM with AMD 5870 and 8 GB of RAM. Yeah I know. It's old but I hardly use it anymore as I generally use my smartphone or work computer. However my work computer is locked down pretty tight so I can't install anything on it so personal use apps are a no-go. But usually I can get by.

However, I think I'm finally to the point that I need to get a new laptop. My question to you all is how much faster, or better of an experience would the Surface Go be than my current laptop? I don't need a blazing fast computer and can't justify spending a lot of money on a computer I would barely use. This leads me to think a Go could be a good candidate.

I plan on note taking, web surging, DVD ripping through an external DVD drive, video converting, probably light gaming through the store.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Grabbing some scores off geekbench,

It's not as if the 4415Y is a powerhouse CPU, but in practical use, the Go will probably feel about the same as using your current laptop. Maybe even faster as I assume your laptop doesn't have an SSD and the 128GB version of the Go does. And the 128GB version is the one I would recommend if you're ripping DVDs.

Thanks for your input. I figure my aging HD’s is what really makes it feel slow. Practically speaking I should just throw a ssd in there but that wouldn’t be as fun.
