It doesn't make sense. Voice calls do not use data unless you have been on a VOIP app. Secondly you haven't posted any details that could help answer (phone, network, etc.). Kindly login/register and respond for someone to better assist.
When you get a new phone it often updates Apps that are outdated since the phone was prepped for sale... I suspect that is where your data went.
WiFi is your friend.
