Please anyone having problem with folder named OTHER, how to delete it n recover space in phone memory awa sd card, day by day this OTHER folder size increasing

First - do you know what's in the OTHER folder ? are you sure you want whatever it is, gone ?

NOW, try clicking TEMPORARY FILES, then DELETE ... you may have to do this more than once, but you should get some relief.

The alternative is, move everything on the SDcard to the phone (or a computer) then FORMAT the SDcard, then put everything back

The "other" system folder seen in the phones internal storage memory can't be deleted.
If your seeing an increase in "other" contents with Storage Check beta the size reported is probably inaccurate.

When I open that other folder, showing msg like, connect to pc n manage this folder, but actually I can't see that folder on pc, what to do 😞

Temporary files are of 952MB on my device when checked through storage check n I can't delete it, only 3-4MB space recovered, what to do 😞

After updating my device to wp 8.1 or Cyan, shows system folder acquired 4.2GB, initially it was only 2.1GB in Wp 8 Black. Is it for everyone's mobile?? I m using L1320.

No sir...
I can't see the protected\encrypted system files either.

If your device is on the latest incursion of firmware 8.1 you may use "storage sense" to delete temporary content.

If your device is on 8.0 you may be able to clean out temp files using "Lumia storage check beta"

If I may ask what is the actual amount of internal storage available on your device internal memory?

You can see here that Lumia Storage check beta is reporting 606 MB on the phones storage.

Storage check beta has proven less than reliable for me under 8.1 (Cyan)

When we view internal phone storage with "Storage sense" included with WP firmware version 8.1 "other" is zero...

Depending on your device firmware "other" will not be the same amount.
I would advise deleting temp files under whichever storage utility you have installed.
Deleting any uneeded text conversations\call history stored on the phone.
Cleaning out web browsing history.
Performing a "soft reset" by holding the volume (-) and power button simultaneously for 10-12 seconds until the device vibrates then release.
Recheck "other" after resetting...

"Be advised temp files will never be completely be emptied because of the system constantly updating so you will always see a small amount written to that system folder."

The problem with other storage has never been fixed. I am using Lumia 720(windows 8.1 gdr1) the other folder occupies 1.9gb and temporary files are only a mere 40 mb. I'm using a 16gb SD card, the storage sense app shows 1gb of other data and all my apps except 2 or 3 are installed on my SD card. How to clear the other data still remains unsolved.

Thanks guytronics n anvesh 😊

@ guytronics, what about system occupied space, it shows 4.22 GB after cyan update, before it was 2.1 only, tell me how to upload images to this blog so that I can show you screen shots
Tell me how to move maps to sd card, I have download 324 MB maps in phone memory by default

Strange! My temporary files were 0 bytes under Storage Sense, while other was 400+ MB. After deleting temp. files, the other decreased to 100 MB.

Other folder is actually your internet browsing history. I tried all that others said and nothing happened. So I read what Microsoft was saying about. I had about of 300 MB< and as I deleted the internet's browsing history the half was gone.
Also, Microsoft says that this other file is used by other apps for notifications and that stuff.

So, 1st step:
Clean regularly your browsing history.

2nd step:
Uninstall unused or not frequently accessed apps. Their notification or whatever they used may occupy your phone's memory capacity.

3rd step:
Move apps to SD card, the most you can. Some won't move.

4th step:
Thank me later :)

I hope it helped.

I had the same problem. I once half downloaded a game called overkill,I then soft resetted my phone 2 times and it failed, that download was moved to other and my download failed ,go to temp files and keep pressing delete to clean up the other files, and try deleting all stuff like browsing history, unwanted apps that send loads of notifications etc. I hope this helps
