It is an interesting idea that HTC have spawned.

Fingers crossed the 1025 (or whatever it'll be) has dual sensors but they increase the sensor size further to full frame... A man can dream...

but it doesn't do a great job and because of the hardware they couldn't get ois to work with it ....... its a gizmo at the expense of practical useful hardware ....... I would rather have 1 large high quality sensor and optical set up like nokia do at the minute rather then have this sort of gimmick

also from that video they say the software nokia uses is just as effective ;-)

Well, I tried 2 Nokia Lumia 1020's for a dazzling 2 wks before handing them both in because of battery issues. In that time, I played around with refocus and I can honestly say that I was very underwhelmed by this particular imaging technology. I would photograph items with close foreground and very distant background and to be totally honest, the refocus app barely worked. Looking at some youtube videos of the new HTC M8, it's refocusing app is a lot more dramatic but at the expense of realism.

you can get bokeh effect on the 1020 without refocus ....... however it isn't as effective as a dslr with good lens obviously ...... even the rx100 with 1" sensor has troubles with bokeh throughout its zoom ...... its a mix of large sensor and aperture that give the bokeh effect ...... the 1020 and 808 pull it off very well for mobile phones and the refocus app is also a gimmick for messing about with and the best soloution would be a large sensor and right aperture for deep milky bokeh shots ie background blurred and subject in focus ;-)

the htc one is trying for a unique selling point I bet we see their next flagship without the 2nd lens like we did when they tried 3d photography via a 2nd lens ;-)
