Seems like there is a lot of unscientific theories flying around here about battery life and whether or not batteries are defective etc.
Just want to clear the air.
I think there is a very simple explanation.
a.) WP8 simply isn't optimized yet to get the best battery life it can.
AND
b.) The battery meter "learns" what the actual capacity is over time (this we know to be a fact).
That's it.
All of these crazy "fixes" like hard resets and draining your battery etc I think are mostly placebo effect. There's no scientific method being applied there to measure results. I think people's imaginations are running away with them and they are convincing others to do unnecessary crazy things, which at best don't make a real difference and at worst, cause harm, like telling people to do a hard reset which then "bricks" their phone.
This all reminds me of people who install a "tornado" in their cars air intake and swear they got a 20% increase in fuel economy.
HERE'S SOME PRACTICAL ADVICE FOR A CHANGE:
Turn off everything you can.
Turn off all the things.
Things use energy. Your constant weather tile updates, your Wi-Fi, your Bluetooth, your NFC, your background processes, your auto brightness setting, your 4 email accounts checking every 5 minutes.
I don't care who you are, I GUARANTEE you if you turn off all of those things, uninstall Nokia Drive beta and turn on battery saving, you will get MORE than acceptable battery life.
It's not an ideal situation, but I think you will find like I did a long time ago with my 900, that it's really pointless to have everything on all the time anyway. It takes me 0.01 of a second to tap the stupid weather tile to get the current temperature. I don't use NFC and rarely use Bluetooth. When I need to I'll turn them on.
Like I said, it's not a perfect solution, but I have total confidence an update will be coming soon which will improve battery life. Until then, if you follow the simple step of turning off absolutely everything you don't need, your battery life will be excellent. I generally have 70% or more left at the end of my work day even with heavy use.
