I know this thread is a couple months old but i really want to get my view on tablets out
OP: To be honest i was in the same boat as you when the 1st Ipad was released or did not have a tablet, i just thought I the Ipad was just pointless and overpriced ''large Ipod' i would rather use my laptop for surfing the web, watching videos and is portable/powerful enough for my needs and i thought Windows 8 tablets was good and did considered to replace my old(dying) laptop in November but i decided to buy a new laptop it is alright(low spec/I3 core/6GB of RAM but good for gaming with a good dedicated GPU/Nvidia) and at the time i was not that tech savvy but once i got a Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 7 as a gift from Santa(lol) for Christmas
And it 100% changed the way i think about tablets in general becuase they are more portable and more convenient and are like mini computers at your finger tips and i don't really use my new laptop anymore(only as a backup/storage) i think i might i just sell it in the future.
I use my Galaxy Tab 2 7(Android) and i mainly use it for surfing the web, Watching videos, Looking up the latest news, games and writing scripts for my Youtube videos(with bluetooth keyboard) and checking the weather and just starting to be more productive on it like writing documents on Kingsoft Office and at the moment i am writing a document about '' Top 5 reasons you get a tablet over a laptop '' and i have a powerful 11.6 inch Windows 8 tablet Acer Iconia W700(I5 core) with 4GB of RAM i mainly use it for video editing(as my laptop is very slow/buggy on tasks like this) and make my Youtube videos with a mouse and keyword and surfing the web and watch videos and it can play games like FIFA, GTA on it but on low settings.
I do find the 7/9 inch tablets are more convenient and portable than 10/11 inch tablets like while you are the go(car/plane,more) or holding in one hand for a long time.
I use them equally nearly every day as my main computer and my tablets are my primary computer and they are great i am a big fan of tablets and I only bring my Acer Iconia W700 and Galaxy Tab 2 7 on holidays with me and leave my laptop at home and in general i think tablets are like mini portable laptops regardless whether it is is a Android/IPad or Windows 8 tablet because they have the functional of a laptop and the potablity of a smartphone so they are in between the 2.
Most people have replaced there laptop/desktops with tablets for work/college(productive) or just for media consumption and there are people have replaced there laptops with tablets and all so tablet sales have over taken PC sales in late 2013 and be up by 75% by 2017.
Any way tablets will only get more powerful in the future and are here to stay!
I 100% agree with this because i think it is easier and faster to get programs(apps) from the App store than on Windows as well.

(*) I do some things on the iPad because it's just easier than Windows. For example, I have developed a bad habit of playing games on the iPad, because they are easily accessible in the App Store. Of course, I could play games on the PC too, but finding, buying and installing them is more hassle.
