I7 screams

Man, that was quick! I want to get an i7 but uk people gonna get it end of month I believe.

How is it? Noisy? Hot? Any benchmarking done yet to compare with the i5?

Runs fast and smooth. It does get hot to the touch but only close to the battery plugin. Fan is not as loud at all. I'm converting a movie to mp4 and unzipping a movie with WinZip right now. WiFi is getting 150m download. Having trouble with the updates but haven't rebooted yet... having to much fun.

Got my i7 today. Say goodbye to the desktop, surface rt, kindle. :excited:

I returned my Galaxy Note 10.1 to the store and traded in my laptop to get the SP3 i5. I love it, and it does everything amazingly well. But I think I'm gonna invest in the $70 Kindle because it is so light and easy to use in a crowded area. I feel like the two devices complement each other. I'm an avid reader, so I think E-Ink is the only way to go.

Can you check if it throttles when running something intensive? Right now that's the case with the i5s.

Just got mine. I had the i5, and took it back. The i7's fan so far is way more quiet than the i5. The i5 had a high pitched whine. I am doing windows updates right now, fan just kicked up louder, but it is still not as loud as the i5. I am installing Bioshock Infinite, so as soon as that is done, I will let you know about heat and throttling.

nice one. wish I can get my hand on an i7 right now. will certainly be interested in its benchmark and how much of an improvement it would be against an i5. Shame you didn't get to benchmark the i5 beforehand to compare. Hopefully some nice soul will be willing to perform a benchmark and display its results here so it can compare with the i7.

Mine is "on truck for delivery". The anticipation is killing me!!!

When I get mine Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio and a few others will be among the first things I install. I'll run them concurrently and report back.

Soon as the UPS man gets off his hump

I unfortunately am using my sprint LTE for internet right now. So Bioshock Infinite is not yet downloaded. But I did throw undead overlord on there. It is not as intensive as bioshock, but it is 3d and I didn't have any issues that I could see after about 10 minutes of it running. The fan was on, but I didn't notice any slowdown. It ran smooth as butter on highest resolution.

Any chance you could use intel extreme tuning to see the amount of power limit throttling and maximum graphics frequency?

Got mine.............Cant install software fast enough..........modern ui apps open lightning fast.....but that's expected. Office 13 opens in the blink of an eye also..........Autodesk Building Design Suite is next.........Will report soon. Fan is super quiet though, its been running during install, and I can barely hear it.

I installed it. It does throttle while under load. How do I check the items you mentioned boo516?

That sucks. The program I use is made by intel. It's called intel extreme tuning, google the download link. It will display the amount of throttling. The max GHz of the CPU and GPU and allow you to do benchmarks. The way I did it was to run a game and had extreme tuning on a different monitor and just looked at it when FPS or anything else changed.

I installed the extreme tuning, I don't have a separate monitor to plug into so I tabbed back and forth. The heat of the CPU jumped to 90, and the thermal throttling jumped up to 30% at times. Like I said though, Undead Overlord was running just fine at max resolution. It is not the graphics powerhouse Bioshock Infinite is though. I'll try to do more testing tonight, when I get home and have a better internet connection. As soon as I can I will post an update.

That's pretty consistent with what I see. Can you also check for power limit throttling, CPU Frequency, and GPU Frequency? Thanks for doing this.

Thermal Throttling 43%, Proc Freq 2.39GPU Freq 548, now proc freq dropped to 1.0 I don't see power limit throttling.

Ohh definitely like to know this. I use vs2013pro with full fat sql server 2013 handling about 15gb of data. Let me know how it performs!

6pm and ups still hasnt shown up. Ahhhhhhhh

edit:they finally showed up at like 7. *cracks knuckles*

:excited:
