IE 10 Drop Down Menu Problem

It's more than "not user friendly" it's making certain pages impossible to get to without finding the URL out on another device first.

Unless there is a way I haven't heard of isn't that the case with any website with a hover/drop down menu? Unless by coincidence they happen to have multiple links for the same page.

InfoWars.com is an example, any of the links along the top of the page that are part of a hover/drop down menu. I believe there are several other examples in the 1st page of this thread too.

I'm totally open to suggestions, if there's a work around I'd love to hear. No sarcasm intended.

For an example of a site where it is impossible to get to certain pages on WP8, take a look at my website Windle Valley Runners.

We are not a multi-million company with an IT Dept, we are a community-based, volunteer-run running club. I built the website using the Content Management System that our ISP provides. The CMS menus are based on mouse-over. The website works correctly everywhere except on Windows Tablets and Phones.

Now you can waffle all you want that it's our own fault for not knowing about these things and/or not following standards and/or using out-of-date technology and/or using the wrong ISP, but I think actually we have right on our side and Microsoft is f***ing us about needlessly. We aren't going to change ISP because of this, nor pontificate to them about what they are doing wrong in their CMS. We might have to put a banner on our home page saying something like "Using Windows Mobile? Click here to navigate the site", then write a site map page for them. But I don't think we should have to.

Much of the web is made up of amateurs like ourselves, and Microsoft ought to realise that and, to an extent, deal with it.

Hi, all. I just bought a new Acer Iconia tablet at Office Depot and had the same drop-down menu problem in Internet explorer. When I re-opened the same web page using Google Chrome, which came on this tablet, I had much better luck. Still not perfect, but much better. Good luck!!

just for your information: GDR3 Preview still suffer about this HUGE problem. I really can't understand who says that "not working is correct", if i can't surf a site because of this problem and all the other can (from users of 70€ android phone to 700€ iphones) means just one thing: WP and WinRT are not doing it right now.

the only thing the matters is the user experience IMHO

edit: if you scan modern.ie from modern.ie you'll get lot of problems too
There are tons of site like that for standard scanning, but a good website is not about standards, is about make it perfect for more users as possible, even it means to get against standards

I've just written my 1st website with a nice drop down menu. It works great on desktops, via ie, Firefox. It works on iPads & iPhones. T works on every android mobile I can access. Basically it works on everything BUT WINDOWS MOBILE PHONES. bearing in mind there are millions & millions of website menus that use hover why can't Microsoft make their browser honor hover so that millions & millions of website owners don't have to fix a problem created by Microsoft going in a different direction to everyone else. Someone mentioned earlier that PE pole should stop visiting websites until they rewrite their websites to work on ie but I think differently and would say everyone should boycott ie until Microsoft fix the problem they have created.

looks like on Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 this is fixed. If we're lucky they will port this fix to Windows Phone 8.1 too

Whenever i searching solutions for this problem I realised that this is very old problem of wp8 which is now 3 years old. What kind of support and updates can be expected from Microsoft in future. Recently we received 2 updates but this basic problem was not resolved by them. When this websites can be opened by low cost android phones then why it cant be opened by costly windows phones. Website developers will not update there websites for windows platform and why they have to do?

I have the same issue on my Playbook and it has 6 browsers (none as good as IE), so I think it is not the browser.

It isn't "technically" the browser, as the browser is doing exactly what it is supposed to: leave the menu open if and only if the user's cursor is hovering over it. This is an issue with mobile devices, and a lot of mobile browsers have implemented "cheating" to avoid the undesired behavior of menus closing. Obviously, this needs to be fixed - I'm not excusing it as a "feature" or "not a problem," merely pointing out that it can't rightfully be considered a bug because the browser is rendering the page exactly as the standard implies it should, while other browsers actually render it in a way that deviates.

Seriously though, what I do is "go advanced" then tap on the title box, which should bring the keyboard up where it'll stay, then long press the body box until the cursor appears and then the keyboard stays up.

I made the switch from iPhone to W8 phone when the Lumia 920 was released. I noticed this problem within a few days and just assumed it would be fixed soon. Now it appears that not only are they ignoring a year old problem, it's actually a legacy problem that's been around more than a year.

Any suggestions on how we, as consumers, get this fixed? It sounds silly, but this is actually a problem that would make me switch phones. 90% of the time it's a non issue and I love my phone. But it's that 10% of the time and always seems to be when I'm in a hurry to do something and I'm "on the go". So far I've kept it because I love Xbox Music, but it's time to renew Xbox music next month and I'm unsure.
