If I remove someone from my contacts, are they removed from Facebook?

I have a couple of friends on Facebook from my sports club who I don't plan to contact outside of Facebook. However, by adding my Facebook account to Windows Phone, I get all of them in my contacts list anyway. Can I safely delete them from my phone, or will they also be removed from my Facebook account?

I don't think you can remove them from the contacts but you can certainly hide your facebook contacts so that they don't show up in your contacts

did you try linking the people you have in your contact list to their facebook account and then hiding the facebook contacts.....their facebook profiles will be shown

Good idea, I couldn't find the right words to type into google, I wanted to hide these people.

This works brilliantly, only those people from my sports club of whom I have a phone number get shown. Thanks for your help!
