If I upgrade HDD to an SSD will the Windows 8 product key work?

Switching HDDs with Windows 8.1

I have Windows 8.1 Pro installed on a 2007 HP Pavillion running a 5400 RPM Sata II drive. I want to upgrade that 5400 drive to an SSD (Yes I know there is a bottleneck). My question is, if I upgrade the HDD to and SSD, will the Windows 8 Product Key work. Is it Hard Drive based or Motherboard based. Will the activation fail if I upgrade the disk because Windows is already installed on the 5400 drive?

I read the terms, and iirc, then you can, but only if you uninstall it in the 5400. I'd wait for a professional answer, though.
