If Windows Phone 8 is successful, how long until the competition goes to the DOJ?

They're def the father of the modern smartphone & ecosystems that we know today. Why do you think companies like Palm, RIM, etc died (or are dying)?? Besides, you can say that about anything (this tech led to that, etc). And thats true, but still. Even through I prefer Windows Phone over anything out there, I give credit where credit is due. They lit a fire under everyone's a*s, and thats a good thing.

We wouldn't have Windows Phone, Android, etc & the landscape would still be littered with archaic sh*t from the past market leaders (like BB OS & Windows Mobile), still chugging right along because no one called them on their suckiness.

Apps. That's what iPhone has brought to the table. That's their strength and that's their ecosystem's strength. iOS is rapidly becoming antiquated - it looks like a prettier version of Windows 3.1 for Gods sake. They did light a fire under the industry's *** - now Android is returning the favour.

RIM failed to learn from Palm's mistakes and now they're paying - but as a business device they are still solid as ****. Also at one time they were close to the only game in town. Switch RIM and Apple around and we would be celebrating the latest iPhone today - the iPhone 3GS-ST.Same as the 3GS but now comes in red.

I'd like to revisit this statement in five or ten years to see if anything that is top dog today will be labeled "sucky" then.

The whole thing about Apps cracks me up.

I was running Palm OS and Symbian in the early 2000s. I could browse the web, send and receive e-mail, sync my Exchange calendar, and run thousands of apps.

I showed it to my fellow Mac users at the time, and they all scoffed. "Why do I need apps, email and the web on a phone?" they asked. "That's what my PowerBook is for. I just need my RAZR, and I'm all set!"

Then, when the iPhone came out seven years later, they were like "look, I can browse the web and get e-mail -- on a PHONE!"

And six months after that... "Look, I can run APPS! I can run little programs on my phone!"

And I was like "yeah, yeah." Sigh :p
