If you are connected to Wifi, does Netflix use that by default?

I also only have the 200meg ATT data plan, I'd go without the Data plan and go WiFi only, but carriers have to milk cash from customers.

The phone should default to WiFi if it establishes a connection, but turning off Data is a sure fire way to make sure you don't get any shocking data bills.

Honestly, unless you have unlimited web access; turn off data just to actually know you are using wifi.

Turning off data is the only guarantee, but note that with it off, no: messaging, background email sync, live tile updates, etc. WiFi only remains on when you phone is plugged in to a power source. On battery, WiFi will turn off after 30 seconds if not working a task like downloading or streaming.

If the picture looks blurry and bad while watching netflix I think that's a good indication your on 3G and NOT on wifi.

To correct my below post, WiFi will turn off 30 seconds after your phone screen turns off, unless it it performing some activity, like streaming or downloading.

i have the 200mb plan on my wp7 line, but i have used 75% of that... i'm usually on wifi, so i assume somehow it hasn't been using it at all times. so like others have stated, turn it off to be sure.

as much as i envy you att users for having a bunch of wp7 hansets to choose from, i don't envy your data caps. :\

netflix seems to default to wifi on other platforms, i don't see why it would be any different on wp7, but turning off data really is the safest way.

i sent a message to netflixhelps on twitter, if they reply, i'll let you guys know.

i have unl data, but not on that line. have 200mb on 3 lines and unl on my primary. paying $30/line each month would be too much to swallow.

True it should by default, and on some platforms it might be forced. I remember Netflix on iPhone (this was over a year ago maybe the app has been updated) would allow over 3G as well. Of course with disastrous results......

Problem is, if you lose your WiFi connection while viewing, or the signal is weaker than your 3G signal, the phone may switch over automatically. And I have read that once switched over it won't go back to WiFi till you exit, reload an app. Maybe Netflix needs a "Use WiFi Only" toggle.

i agree. a 'wifi-only' switch would be perfect.

I'm surprised you guys can make 200mb work. Last month was my lowest data usage month yet and I was at 1000mb and that was on WiFi half the time.

i'm around wifi 90%-95% of the time... i wouldn't even make the 2GB if i didn't have that much wifi.
