I'm burning 1600 calories a day while not wearing my band 2

So I've owned the band 2 for about 2 weeks now. I will say its a sleek device, but I picked up my band this morning off my desk, and to my surprise, I had burned 600 calories already. Contacted Microsoft support and they told me to send it in. Something about a faulty sensor, but I believe this is a software issue. Thoughts?

You are constantly burning calories, even when you're not moving. It's probably trying to take account of this. Remember, your brain burns a lot of calories. In fact, one of the best ways to burn calories is to study hard.

None of the current fitness trackers are scientifically accurate. Much has been written on this. They can however act as a rough guide and demonstrate relative performance. If there is anyone out there who thinks they can truly measure calories burned then please pm me as I have some magic beans you may be interested in ;)

Yeah... the 1600 is an estimate of your basal metabolic rate... you then expend energy by movement while wearing the band would help track if you had it on.

Hi wakka420,

Based on the information about height, weight, age, and gender, that you enter during OOBE, Microsoft Band estimates your calorie expenditure while you are not wearing it.

To expand on what crabby2004 said...

Your basal metabolic rate is the minimal amount of energy you expend in a day to keep your body functioning. MS Health uses variables such as your height, weight, age, gender to calculate an estimate of total calories your body will burn throughout the day. Since that information is gathered when you first set up your MS Health profile, you are going to have an estimate of your calories burned even without any additional input from your Band.

Simply put, the only way to burn zero calories is to be dead. Even a couch potato burns some.

So the Band is making assumptions that you're still alive. The day it's wrong, you'll have other things on your mind. :winktongue:
