I'm worried about all the changes and complaints

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

OK deep breath and..............Begin

The Facebook integration hasn't gone. it's still there it's just the chat has been segregated.

Wrong. It's gone. Go to email and accounts and there is no more Facebook. Anything you want to do with FB launches the app. That's not integration. That's garbage.

Has it at all occurred to your tiny little stuck in its way mind that the changes that have been made may have been done to help users in a transition from one platform to another. If it works in a similar way to what they are used to people are more inclined to learn and use the platform rather than give up in frustration and go back. It's a marketing ploy to encourage adoption. Luckily a lot of the features that have been added are also for the better.

Ok, Mr. "Let-me-insult-somebody-so-I-can-sound-smarter-than-I-think-I-am"....I'm sure my mind (tho I believe you meant to insult my intelligence and tried to suggest I am not open minded) and my intelligence can run circles around yours, and as far as being open minded, let's just say there's too much and too personal of things to list to prove otherwise. Before you insult someone in a forum no less, that you never met, maybe you should think first. Oh wait...that would mean you need to have something other than a tiny mind. And I understand wanting to help transition someone. This isn't the way to go.

that's the primary point of the Action Centre to notify you which platform you are being contacted via. Most people i know also tend to veer towards one messaging platform and stick with that anyway. i have friends who use only skype, others only on facebook, and some that are only on whatsapp. I'm very chat platform agnostic and i know which app to use to contact a particular individual.

Well, good for you. I mean I have friends who stick to one as well, but I and most of my closer friends are multiplatform users. So if "Bob' is on his PC using Skype, then on FB, then leaves his house and sends a text, I could get all messages in one thread. Action center or not, the new way takes way more steps and is less convenient. You have no argument there.
.
You still have a choice. you can adapt and survive or jump ship and find a new phone OS to play with. And don't even get me started on your mis-spelling of "operative"

Actually, when it comes to what I was talking about, no I don't have the choice anymore, you cocky little wiseass. But yes, you are right, I do have a choice in platforms. But actually, right now I choose to make my voice heard in hopes others will follow, and can get these things done. And while I do so, I choose, that when I upgrade my phone next week to the ICON, I will not apply this update as I did to my 8x. And I won't with the official release either. And when I can no longer hold out, in a year or so, because WP8 will be dead-in-the-water like WP7 was after WP8, and theses haven't been fixed, then yes I will jump ship. If I wanted Android, I will get an Android and not a watered down copy. And excuse my spelling as it was, 4AM and I was typing on my phone. But don't get me started on your misspelling of the word "mis-spelling".

No WP as YOU love it is dead. like it or not this is the way forward the windows phone team has spoken

Me and I'd estimate 80% of the user base on this site, PCWorld, and other forums I've been on in the last few days. It's dead. This new WP is a watered down version of Android with live tiles.

Darkgift like you i was a firm believer in the platform that worked in object centric manner as opposed to being app focused. The hubs and everything about them made sense and it was easier. Problem was this idea clearly wasn't working for the masses. Hell the only reason WP is the third largest smartphone OS is cos RIM screwed up monumentally with their blackberry OS/handsets. That coupled with the success of the platform in Second and Third World markets.

Regardless, that's what sold people on the platform. That's what made me and others proud and tout the features. Now it's cluttered, clunky and god-awful. The beauty is gone.

I think some patience and understanding needs to be exercised here. Look at Windows 8. That was almost a disaster worse than Vista. But things have happened since and it is now on the mend (far from perfect but on the right track now at least). Just give it a few months until the new handsets are retailing and the platform is being rolled out proper to existing handsets, what's to say things won't have changed for the better by then?

Difference being, Win8 affected the masses. This is affecting loyal users who have stuck with the platform. Not a world-wide OS being used from Corporate business to homes to students.

You have your opinion like the rest of us and you are entitled to it. All i say is instead of ranting at this forum and other people whose opinion differs from yours. Take on board what is being said instead of shutting it down because you don't agree.

Gotta admit I do admire your passion for Windows Phone

Yes I do, and am entitled to rant and share as much as I want. And just because mine differs from yours, doesn't give you the right to arrogantly put down and insult me when I never did that in any of my comments to anyone here. Healthy debate is always most welcome. But insults are just juvenile and the sign of someone who doesn't know how else to get there points across. Yes I am passionate about it, and I see you are too. If it works for you, all the power to you. It doesn't for me. Next, time, maybe you want to leave out the digs, and I'd be happy to have a more pleasant debate with you.

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

Most of the belly aching really does seem to be people who are resistant to change even if it is for the better.
Removing the option of uploading to OneDrive from the photo's hub while you're scrolling through is a change for the better?
Not having the option to hide status bar is for the better?
Not changing the ever-unpopular password problem for Kid's Corner is for the better?
Removing FB integration (although may not have been MS's decision) is for the better?
Burying background tasks under battery instead of keeping it under its current location where everybody like it is for the better?
Removing Bing Vision from Bing search is for the better?
etc....

I love WP as much as the next guy but MS loves to do two steps forward, one step back. Some of these changes, and others listed IN THIS THREAD, were completely unnecessary and shouldn't have been touched. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Maybe had to be done that way to interact with Cortana. If you go to Cortana there is a sign up for Face book there in the setting.
Is it better or not I don't know cause I don't do facebook.
You said to go to email and account that there is no more Facebook. How come it shows on mine? Am I missing something?

Knock on wood but I am loving this update and have not encountered a single issue on my 920!. How can this be? How can we keep blaming the update? Can it possible be the phones? As for people not liking certain features well that's just personal opinion really. I like the 8.1 and the direction they are going!

Also isn't' Facebook a thing of the past yet? Aren't we a little old for FB? I do use it from time to time to keep in touch with people but for the most part I am very glad it's not all integrated throughout the OS. I do not want to have to use FB for anything to make my phone work.

It's there just not as prevailant as it once was See Here. the first thing that happened when i opened the People hub was to be asked to enter my facebook credentials. i get all the feeds and updates as normal via that. granted the chat is missing from messaging and the me hub no longer works in the same fashion. But whats to say this is microsofts decision. this could be a decision by facebook.

Ok, Mr. "Let-me-insult-somebody-so-I-can-sound-smarter-than-I-think-I-am"....I'm sure my mind (tho I believe you meant to insult my intelligence and tried to suggest I am not open minded) and my intelligence can run circles around yours

Ok so the insult may have been unwarranted but your posting style is aggressive and very impatient. yes you're frustrated but the people here on this forum aren't to blame why take it out on them? Suffice it to say i was infuriated by the post and responded in kind. Oh and the intelligence thing i'm not even gonna rise to as you are clearly a very angry and frustrated individual.

This i can sympathise on. Although again with my social circle people tend to stay on one platform regardless of device. But hey i'm obviously one of the lucky ones out there.

Yes I do, and am entitled to rant and share as much as I want. And just because mine differs from yours, doesn't give you the right to arrogantly put down and insult me when I never did that in any of my comments to anyone here

yes you are entitled to rant. you aren't entitled to take it out on the community. you got the arrogance and insults because you were doing the same to your peers (ok maybe not so much the insults but the attitude in all honesty stank).

I really think someone needs a hug right now.

As normal? In 8.0 it was possible to go to a contact and see all his/her FB photos there. Now it's gone.

that still works but only if you are using the official release of the facebook app and not the beta version. if you follow the link i had in my post it'll go into more detail for you.

Well, in settings>email and accounts its not there. But I see in the people hub settings its there to sync with the app, so I guess we're both right to an extent. But it's not integrated into the OS. it just syncs with the apps. I guess its a tomato/tom(ah)to thing.

I guess I can accept what seems to be an apology. Going over my posts, however, I don't see aggression. I just see bluntly and simply stating a fact. I didn't think I needed to write a paragraph to coddle the masses. And no need to rise to anything. I'm actually not angry or frustrated with people...just MS. Tho your comments did boil my blood a little. But again, if I read between the lines, I believe there was an apology, so we're all good.

This i can sympathise on. Although again with my social circle people tend to stay on one platform regardless of device. But hey i'm obviously one of the lucky ones out there.

I guess the ones like me, are on multiple platforms so we can stay in touch with the ones who are app specific. So for the bunch of friends who are like me, if I'm chatting on FB with a FB only user, I can send a msg to a multi user from there. Then if I'm chatting on Skype with a Skype user, I can chat with the same multi user there as well. B4, those msgs were in one thread for that multi user. No it's a little convoluted. That was my point.

yes you are entitled to rant. you aren't entitled to take it out on the community. you got the arrogance and insults because you were doing the same to your peers (ok maybe not so much the insults but the attitude in all honesty stank).

I don't think I took anything out on the community. I was rallying the like minded, and showing the unlike minded our/my points. I had no attitude about it. I think in that sense, you totally read me, and jumped gun on judging my intent.

I really think someone needs a hug right now.

Hugs are great...I give and receive them all the time. I'm actually a very empathetic and mellow dude. Again...I think you may have misread my "feelings" and "attiudes", when all I was doing was one liners in a passionate way. tho I sense the sarcasm, I'll still take that hug as a peace offering and an acceptance of ur apology.

See...now we can start fresh and have a healthy debate.

I just tried it myself and it show images in the contacts feed but for images it show an icon for Facebook that then opens the app and bring up that persons feed. Clearly some work to be done by Facebook to sort that out.

I feel you man, but we must understand that is still a PREVIEW and we need to speak now to get them fixed or changed before it get released to the public. and man the games in the app list now OHHHH that pisses me off on so many levels, now I lost my big point I could rub in android users faces

I think Microsoft is at fault here. MSFT should've made the WP 8.1 nicely out-of-the-box, even though it's a preview. If the preview is already great, then it shows the confidence in MSFT's engineers and would create a good press. If the preview itself is already creating a ruckus, then the level of expectation for Microsoft to do better in the future is raised.

The consumers I think is right though to complain a lot, which shows Microsoft has to step up their game, make them able to improve the preview, fix future issues and increase knowledge in what consumers want. If the consumers all shut-up and claim only minor problems, WP8.1 itself won't change much and a lot of users would eventually be unhappy with the change. Constructive criticism (or sometimes ramblings) is necessary.

That makes us one of the only people here apparently. Loving 8.1 on my 810. Honestly I've only got minor nitpicks right now. The movement of the end call button being the most egregious. And the swipe to change songs is gone, but it does appear much nicer now. The sheer amount of complaining is silly. I will continue to support Windows Phone. If the changes are sooooo horrid that you just cannot take em... remember. This is Mobile Nations. You can quite easily move to imore, android central, or even crackberry. Haters gonna hate, and I plan on continuing supporting my favorite OS ever.

After the update my phone feels a bit laggy, it reminds me of Android. I will do a hard reset, hope it fixes that issue. I don't mind that, its a preview.

I was quite disappointed at first with the lag, did a sift reset didn't seem to make much difference, but seems to have got better over the last few days.
