I'm worried about all the changes and complaints

After the update my phone feels a bit laggy, it reminds me of Android. I will do a hard reset, hope it fixes that issue. I don't mind that, its a preview.
What phone do you have?
Because my 720 is a bit laggy too :(

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

Why could a Game hub that is offloaded to the store not include shortcuts to your games and hide them from the app list? I'm sure this can be done with smart coding.
Of course they can do that, easily.

Unfortunately for those who want it though, a game is technically an app, and that's how the vast majority of phone users view it. Windows Phone is supposed to be based on simplicity. All of your apps being in one place is not only more simple, but it's common sense to the rest of the world outside those of us who became accustomed to a hub. If Windows Phone is to grow, it has to concede to a few market standards. It's just reality. :/ They could however include a buried option somewhere that allows you to accomplish this, I guess. No harm there.

I am also a Lumia 720 user. It was a bit laggy with 8.1 update but I decided to try a hard-reset and now it's fine.

As well you should be worried..

As much as I was happy to change from Android to Wp...that happiness is certainly waining because of this Preview...

A lot of people like myself was lead to believe this was not a Beta...but..in reality it is a Beta nothing more..

Sure sure..you can minch words about it...and everyone "should" have researched this...but the last week leading up to the release..on this site..it was called Gold release..ready to be put on all of the carriers phones...If this is the case...god help Microsoft and the carriers if they release this to the general public as is...with just some of their bloatware added to the mix..Way too many issues going on...and what momentum gained by the interest by all the good press that has been given recently...will soon be just the opposite..

No...this release is not ready to be shippped and installed and sold without more work..not till they fix what is broken on all of the various phones...They have removed or hidden features that should not have been..and made some things impossible to do now..which is very irritating..They have a issue with what is constanly syncing by default..they have a problem with their wi-fi ..game hub..cloud storage..the store not seeing purchased apps after having to do a hard reset..( the wi-fi issue very similar to androids past issues with it) and to have to do a full clean install..is a royal PITA...and still isn't a 100% cure all from what all has been said....I know it's a work in progress..and is off to a excellent start compared to previous versions...but they have to get the core to work with what folks have before releasing it publicly..and I know the developers have to ensure this..Maybe it was a wake up call from Redmond..IDK...but I hope things get fixed by who ever has to do it..

There are lots of cool ideas..don't get me wrong and I really like what I have seen so far..and it's still way early in...but...and as much as I really don't like saying this...in it's current state it is a total crapshoot putting it on your phone and saying in all certainty that everything on yours is going to function properly and if some take offence to this..understand 1 thing...there are a whole slew of folks making the switch over to WP and all aren't as tech savay about WP's as many here are........so...knowing now what I didn't know last week...I wouldn't put the DP on your phone..and I truely wish there was a easy way to switch it back..I've tried the Nokia care suite..and can't get it to work ( XP & Vista pcs I know I know...need to update them too...lol)...but I am not ignorant of how to flash firmware...I've done it hundreds of times with Androids..and having to start all over after a hard reset is very time consuming..and arggravating..

If you like to flash and mess around...go for it..Hard resets work for many if things get out of wack..if you don.t..and want it to work 100% out of the box..don't..

This has nothing to do with hating...

Just because you aren't having issues...and a few others don't..get a grip...many if us are.

I chose my 1520..for many reasons..having my phone go nuts with flaky firmware wasn't one of them...I like the platform otherwise I would not have switched to it..to say go to something else and not voice how I feel is a typical childish fan boy response.

Glad yours is ok..and I hope mine gets straightened out soon.

Firstly, please stop using ellipses (those ....), it....is....annoying....

Second, I agree with you, WP should release to the public an already-in-good-condition OS even though it's a preview.

The People hub integration with facebook and twitter isn't gone but it is different. I understand that it was easier back then to like and post but I am more inclined that the removal was requested by Facebook instead of Microsoft's since it literally makes their app useless same thing with the Message hub. Right now what we have is a bit different when you want to comment or like in the People hub you're taken to the facebook app which goes directly to the comment and like screen for the post you've selected, it will take about a second to launch. Once Facebook is updated to use the RT kind of multitasking, I'm pretty sure it will be instantaneous.

A lot of people had complaints with the Music app. Yes, it is slower but someone from Microsoft said that this app is directly ported from the old XBox music app and this is probably the reason it still has that resume, loading screens. It will get an update so hopefully this will be sorted out and will use the new multitasking model. I actually like the Music app since I could easily create playlist and see what the upcoming tracks are and removed the ones I don't like or create a playlist out of it. This is especially great when I just use shuffle to play music in my library.

My 720 was a bit slow right after the update but I did power off and reset my phone and now it's working fine.

Some of y'all expect too much

At least you got this process. This is a preview and nothing more, I don't get all this thinking you were getting a gold version of the next OS release. No where on this site did they say the preview was the RTM or gold version. Reading comprehension is key to everything and a lot of people lack it on here I see. RTM is for manufacturers and MS doesn't have any obligation to release to you in a preview the RTM in a developers program. Some of you think way to high of yourselves and think you should be given everything solid gold. I'm glad MS shows some of you that when it means preview for developers it means developers, not you joe consumers that just want something first to stroke your e *****.

If this went on your daily driver and you are having problems boo hooo, I have a tiny violin for you. If you read the warning like most don't you don't play with previews on daily drivers unless you plan to really tinker and develop apps with it. I'm not worried about MS WP8.1 update just ignorant joe consumers that fail to realize that a preview for developers is not an instant update toy. As a Developer even I knew this wasn't going to be good as the RTM from the OEMS especially without the firmware to back it up. Can't tell most of you that though because of the blind "I get the wp8.1 update first frenzy". IMO I think it would have been best for MS to offer this limited numbers and let most wait for the official release from the OEM's that have the included firmware.

There are some problems in wp8.1, but overall I have a much better experience. But please, fix the bugs in the music app, and a make a better to-dos management app. Also quiet hours should be independent from Cortana.

Remember , we chose to join the developer preview. No one forced us, and the average consumer has no idea about it.

The what?

The little circle with the cursor attached which you use when you are trying to correct a typo or go back and change something you have typed. It seems to me that with 8.0 it was a line that with a single tap in a text entry field would appear and move with your finger for precisely positioning the cursor in between characters. That has changed to a little circle with the cursor attached on top which you have to carefully put your finger on and drag to the position you want to edit. It feels much less natural and more clunky in my opinion.

If it is stuck at the edge of the text entry field, good luck trying to "grab it".

Same problem here :( my thumbs are too big :(

I am quite happy with 8.1. I think it is a HUGE step forward and I really like many of the new features. For those people who are complaining about the de-emphasis of the hubs in favor of applications that can be updated much more quickly, I have to say you just weren't paying attention. We knew this was coming for some time now. On the other hand, some of the issues at this point come down to the fact that software to support some of the integration in 8.1 has not been released yet.

I certainly am not saying that 8.1 is perfect. I am one of thousands that think there should be a toggle choice of whether or not games should be listed in the main menu. I also miss having my avatar on the Games Hub live tile. I would like to see the Wi-Fi geofencing expanded and refined. I can go on for some time, but I must say in the end I really like 8.1. The short term updates to 8.1 and associated apps will no doubt fix some issues. Unfortunately some issues will require another GDR. However this has been a huge step forward and I cannot even imagine the thought of downgrading back to WP8.

So I would like to say thank you Microsoft. However, you and we all know this, you have more work to do.*

*please get to it as soon as possible, the race is on and I am not sure slow and steady will win the day....

P.S. yes, it is on my daily driver AND I AM DIGGING IT WITHOUT ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS!!!

Well if you say it like that, then why would people bother going to Microsoft? The thing with consumers is that companies need to make the consumers feel special, feel that they are the best. That's just the hard truth, people want to think highly of themselves. Wonder how Apple got a lot of fans, through making the consumers feel great and high about themselves. It's their money anyways, and they expect to be rewarded with a solid good gold everything since they invested their hard earned money on it.

Yes most people don't know about the Dev Preview thing (or don't care), but the Developers themselves sometimes get irritated on trying a really buggy preview. Microsoft released a rushed OS, they should've invested more time in developing it (and the real thing comes out in June/July, doubt that all the bugs reported could be fixed by that time).

Oh yes it totally sucks. First you could just hold your finger down and then move the cursor to the position. Now you must press between words, then release, then find the lil circle and drag it. Problems: More actions required, you can't hold down at every place, the lil circle is hard to hit, your thumb is in the way so you can't see well where you are placing the cursor.

Considering the sheer amount of nitpicking? While I won't deny people are having problems, the fact that this thread got made is kinda silly. >I'm worried about all the changes and complaints? C'mon... that's really pushing it imo. Change is good, otherwise we'd still be stuck on Windows Mobile. You chose to upgrade to the developer preview. I'm not sure what you'd expect with pre-release software. While it is 90% complete... it's basically there to help app developers adapt to new features introduced. We've basically jumped ship to something that hasn't been fitted with fixtures yet, and complaining about it is quite frankly silly. Let's wait until a general release is dropped... Well, I won't since TMO is likely going to skip us over yet again.

Anyway... accusing people of being fanboys is hardly conductive. Also gonna have to question you on the majority of people having issues with 8.1. I'm seeing quite a few pleased people around. No one is saying it's perfect, but it's hardly a step back. For years I've seen people complain about a lack of features. MS brings em in, and people complain... From my point of view... yeah,

Haters gonna hate. I stand by what I said. If these changes are so offensive that your jimmies have gotten rustled beyond help, change to a different OS. Hopefully carriers will release the 8.1 update for ALL Lumia devices sooner than later.

That's the problem, your happy with it and if you bothered to look you would see a lot of folks have some rather serious problems.

Changes are ok,only if they make things better, and not all of the changes have done that.

No one is hating everything about this or WP itself. Show me where they are.The problem is not those that are worried or have issues, the problem is with you dealing with those who voice their concerns or discuss their issues. The op has just as much right to his opinion as do you, so...I stand by calling you a fan boy. Your the one claiming anyone here is hating on this, and then saying to move to a different is if we don't like it. This is a forum where discussions take place,if you don't like that, perhaps you should be the one to move on.

Crimeny and amen to the quote.
Prior to last Monday the 14th this forum was nothing but:
"gotta have it, I'll dump WP if they don't release it, I'll kill myself if I don't get this, Ooooo can't wait, Awww my life won't be complete without this...on and on..."

Microsoft can't win with these previews.
