I noticed that this drop down menu appeared in Windows Camera in Lumia 640 XL. I'm using build 14393.103, I don't know if the OS update has anything with that, but WC it has not been updated for a while (using Release Preview ring). I've been reporting to Microsoft for months that Windows Camera description in Store claims that both Lumias 640 and 640 XL as capable of taking RAW photos, but the option didn't existed. Now, it appeared, but it's greyed out. Anyone noticed this too?

Change the aspect ratio to 4:3, and it will change to 13 MP.

Yes! It because this dropdown menu is to set the camera to take RAW photos and it wasn't there before. I don't know if they listened to my feedback...

Interesting, if there is RAW image enabled you would see either JPEG or JPEG + DNG as an option there. It's a fact that the 640XL can do DNG (raw image) with a simple registry hack. I have not seen this on latest W10M yet, so maybe it's the first step of them enabling it for everybody as you hypothesize ;)
