In Call Microphone Not Working

I've got a weird issue here. Sometimes when I send or receive a call, the person on the other line cannot hear me. The microphone just does not work. I have to switch to speaker phone before I am able to talk. The problem is very random so I haven't been able to determine if it's a software or hardware problem. Has anyone experienced this issue?

The latest version of Windows Phone 8.1.

i have that same problem. i posted two threads asking for help. when you move the phone away from your face and talk into the mic, it works ok. that seems to me that the proximity sensor is the issue. i already told microsoft about this problem.

Just an update, replaced the phone under warranty. Pretty sure it was a hardware problem. A friend with a Lumia 920 had the exact same issue. Another friend with an HTC One also had his microphone fail... I guess this is pretty common then?
