I haven't hears anyone mention it at all so I'ma go ahead and think for a second that no one has known that now you can swipe left or right from the corners in internet explorer to go back or forward. Something that was missing previously and a great welcome on my part!!!

Agreed, this was a requirement and im very happy to see its been implemented nicely. One of my major flaws from WP8 that was corrected in 8.1

I think someone did mention that before but thanks anyway because it is handy for people that haven't went with 8.1 when it first was released and may be put off going through pages and pages of the tips thread. I found it the first time I was in IE because I'm so used to swiping back the pages on my Surface

On a side note does anyone know how to get IE to open links in a new page? The option used to be there before in IE settings but I just can't find it now.

If you mean a new tab, as far as I can tell you need to long-press on the link you want to open. That will give you three options: open in new tab, copy link, share link.

Opening links in a new tab is actually the default behavior now. The setting is no longer there. So in actuality, they really removed the option to have links open in the current tab.

Edit: On topic, I'm glad they introduced swiping to move back/forward. However, I wish they had also implemented flip ahead (swiping from right to left to advance to page 2, etc.).

Well thanks for removing all doubt that I was a muppet. Yes the links are opening in new tabs but because it wasn't showing the number of tabs in the bottom left I just assumed it wasn't opening new tabs. I wonder why they stopped having the number of open tabs in the tab box. I'm sure they will sort it out.

Thanks guys.

I believe they removed the number on the tabs since you can use infinite tabs now. If you don't close them out, hit the tabs tab and you'll be greeted to all the tabs you've opened since upgrading to WP 8.1. Lol I had like 18 tabs yesterday.

On a side note, I found all the tabs on my surface tablet. I closed them all and they were gone from my phone as well.
