Let me start with a disclaimer: I am a tech lover who has owned multiple phones from various carriers. Palm Pre, HTC Evo, Droid Charge, iPhone 4 & 5, Droid Razr, and the Galaxy Note are just a sampling of the phones that I've had the pleasure of owning over the years. I recently sold my iPhone 5 and purchased the black Lumia 920 on launch day. The iPhone 5 is a beautiful device. The build quality and design are truly what a high end device should have. However, Apple has done little over the years to upgrade a stale and outdated OS. IOS 6 is minor upgrade over previous versions and the OS as a whole has become rather boring. Prior to the iPhone 5 the wife and I owned the Galaxy Note from AT&T. The screen size and customization options of Android made that phone stand out as my favorite device that I owned at that point. I purchased two of them at launch and kept them up until the iPhone 5 launch. The Galaxy Note was truly a marvel and I considered it the best of the best at the time. I got caught up in the iPhone hype and gave the Notes to my two oldest kids when the 5 dropped. I saw a preview video on YouTube a few months back on the 920 and became intrigued by it. I briefly flirted with the Lumia 800 during my Galaxy Note days but quickly returned it due to screen size and lack of apps. I felt that Windows Phone showed a lot of promise but wasn't ready to take on the big boys just yet.
Fast forward to the present and the Lumia 920. This is truly an amazing device. From the upgraded OS to the build quality to the camera to the much improved app store, this phone is truly ready for primetime. I have the black model and the wife the glossy red version. I've read complaints about the weight of the phone but that actually is a plus in my opinion. It feels like a premium device when held. The screen size feels just right and most of my top apps are now available to download thanks to WP 8. This phone runs circles around the iPhone in just about every category except app selection. While I will miss being able to control my AT&T Uverse receiver and Google TV box with my phone, those are minor annoyances when I look at the big picture. The Windows Phone OS is much improved and a worthy opponent to Android and IOS. I like to switch phones more often than most, but I plan on keeping my Lumia 920 for awhile. I received my free wireless charging plate today and although it is more style than substance, it adds to the cool factor of the phone. The 920 is my new favorite phone of all time! :D

Wow, that's a crazy amount of phones man but nice to see that you're open-minded and not just some blind ******.
I've always been an open minded tech head. I'm an avid gamer who just so happens to own an Xbox 360 and a PS3. The tech world is constantly evolving and I truly feel that the more the merrier is a great stance on things. Competition breeds innovation and the consumer benefits from this.

Nice.. I am going to get a 920 soon as well, and I like you will be upgrading from an iPhone 5 and a Nokia 808. The iphone 5 is used as a secondary smartphone for now, as I find my 808 more practical as a "daily driver", but I am looking forward to the 920.

I am surprised that you find the iphone 5 to have good built quality... mine was chipping away on the 2nd day and I had to get a case for it. Yes, its well put together, but the anodizing process they used sucks. My N8 is two years old and I never had such problems... same thing, anodized aluminum.

I moved from the ios6 to lumia 920 as well and I find the music player on windows phone to be really rudimentary and clunky.

It's funny, not too many people discuss the "cool" factor, but this phone definitely has it. I was at Starbucks today and somebody saw my black 920 and said "what the heck is that?" (In a good way.) The 920, 920-related accessories and WP8 definitely have the cool factor going for them!

Yep, I got that alot with my Lumia 900. The last person I let hold it was mesmerized with how fluid and "fast" it was.

I'm in the same boat as OP. I got the first iPhone because Apple was innovative, and I loved that about them. Now, MS is innovating, and Apple's lagging. That's the way of the industry, and I enjoy that. I think a lot of people mistake a simple love of gadget porn for fanboyism. :)

Here's my question: how do you fellow gadget lovers afford all these awesome phones!? I'd love to upgrade that often, or be in 2 ecosystems, but my phone bill alone makes me cringe (really broke college guy).

Glad you could make the switch! I still have and use my iPhone, but plan on using that at a minimal capacity. Certain apps I still need and use on iOS that aren't on WP8 yet. Chase was my biggest one and now iG (Instagram) is the next.

Welcome to WPC and to the WP platform.

You know what's funny is the Windows Phone version of chase mobile is better than the iOS version!

I too am a phone junky ... Some people gamble or do drugs, my habit is buying phones, I love being on at&t as more often than not I pop my sim in and the phone works. The 920 is my current favorite and I feel as though I will stick with this one for a long time as I love the OS and this hardware. Since I go through so many phones I will list my last 5 which were all within the last 12 months ... iPhone 4S, Motorola Atrix HD, Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 5, LG Optimus G, and now the Lumia 920. Google search my screen name and I am sure you will find posts in other forums with my tapatalk ID showing what flavor I was using that month. Of all those phones this one is hands down my favorite, Microsoft and Nokia really nailed it. The screen is the right size, the OS is buttery smooth and the battery life for ky usage habits is more than enough.

My GF has the Iphone 5 and is hating it at the moment. Camera issues, touch screen will sometimes stop responding, just a bad experience from the phone in general. When my 920 Arrives we are sending her unit out for repair and she will use my Samsung Focus until the Iphone arrives, maybe I can bring her to the good side of the Force :D

Alrighty, I'll bite.

I'm a cell phone lover as well. My list over the last reasonable gap of time (since windows phone launch, in no particular order). Htc surround, Samsung focus, htc inspire, galaxy s ii, Samsung infuse, galaxy s ii skyrocket, galaxy note, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, htc one x, pantech flex(don't ask why), galaxy s iii, Nokia lumia 900, and quite possibly a note ii soon here.

My current two phones are the white iPhone 5 and yellow lumia 920

Windows phone IMO still has some things to fix but has come a long way. My favorite is none. My current two phones are the 920 and ip5 and use em each for different things. I love the app selection on the iPhone but the social networking integration on the lumia. I like the lumia hardware better, but I like the ease of backups on the iPhone. I cannot pick just one. I don't know where I'm going with this but thought I would share.
