I'm running wp 8.1 gdr 1 on my 1320. i wonder if i have to make a hard reset when installing the 10586. I also wonder which way i get the smoothest experience (doimg the hard reset way or not)

I was happy with not resetting when i went to build 10581, i was pretty happy. today i installed 10586 and did a hard reset. Its way better IMO

You always get a better experience when hard reset or am i wrong?

Depends who you talk to. Some people say it does. I only perform a hard reset if there's something wrong that can't be corrected through other means (wrong setting/reinstalling an app, etc).

I did a hard reset in my 1320, after I installed it from 8.1. It isnt required, but I always do it and start with OOBE. Then I restore.

586 on the 1320 is pretty good. I allowed it to d/l all the apps and let it sit over night. I have to say, I have not seen a resuming screen, even with 8 or so apps running.

Is it worth a go? I would say yes. It makes the 1320 feel fresh and not the 2 or 3 year old device. Glance now works on mine! Yay!! Overall, not a bad attempt

I upgraded from 8.1 Denim on my ATT 830. Hard reset was absolutely beneficial for me, but I had initially upgraded using a backup restore. It seems to me each device is responding differently to the upgrade. I would see how your phone functions after the upgrade and decide from there. Your best bet to not have to reset is probably upgrading without a backup restore.

writing as i finished installing it. it took my 40 minutes to install and 15 to hard reset but now its all good
