Is it possible to enable certain LTE bands on Lumia 640?

Is there a way to enable an LTE band on Lumia 640?

As far as I know, Lumia 640 supports all LTE bands, but they might differ in certain models (RM-1072 vs RM-1073). It'd be great, if there was a way to enable LTE 3 and 20 bands on RM-1073, like it is possible on Nexus 5 (D920 - D921), using field test.

In the dialer, type ##3282# then click accept. Hit the three dots (...) at the bottom and click settings. Change automatic to manual and then you will something that says all bands active. Click on it and you can check out uncheck the bands you want. Hit the back button, make sure to turn off the ENS toggle, and reboot. The ENS needs to be off to prevent all of your bandwidths from being automatically selected when you reboot or toggle airplane mode.

This does not work if you have an AT&T branded 640. While it is possible to get to Field Test and show the list of bands, all of them were "active" on my phone. But Band 12 (needed for TMobile) is not even listed. The AT&T ROM disabled that band on the phone. The only way to make Band 12 available is to flash an AT&T phone with a different ROM. Right now I am not aware of any TMobile ROM (or other) that is available to do this.

Same here. I have a T-Mobile branded one and they disabled it as well.

As mentioned above, it shows only bands used by AT&T, I want to try flashing another ROM, firmware intended for RM-1072 global version would be ideal, I guess. Although I'm not quite sure about the whole process, heck I don't even know where to get a firmware and how risky the whole deal is.

ATT 640 has locked firmware (that no one has been able to unlock yet) if/when it can be unlocked, then you can load other firmware/roms

and im not sure why some people are saying you cant select the band you want to use in field test mode. yes you can choose manual and enable or disable any available bands. (since band 12 is not available on the ATT640 then obviously you cant do anything with it)

i think you are mistaken. i can enter field test the same as always on t-mobile 640

and yeah as was mentioned above, band 12 works great on t-mobile 640

If the bands are present in the phone, you should be able to, but you can't force something that isn't present.

Right. Of course. Ok, I knew it was too good to be true. Somebody else on another forum told me you can flash the 1072 onto the 1073 because they have the same SoC. Sound possible?

Would someone be willing to show a screenshot or picture of the bands that are available for selecting on the 1073 when you enter into the Field Test? Because that would show me if the ones I need can be turned on.

Yes you can, as long as you do NOT do a nvi/factory reset update. That will make the phone highly unstable and may not be usable. It, however, does not enable any new bands. The hardware does not support it. That is why there are different RM numbers. Now if for example you use EE in the UK flashing their ROM will enable Wifi calling but will not give you access to their band 3 only their band 7.

i have a lumia 1020 RM 875, and wanted to do something similar, my network provider use LTE band 2 and my lumia does not support it, the RM 877 versi?n of my lumia support that band, i already tried to flash it with a 877 firmware and type ##3282#, the band 2 was available there but even i selected it, the phone was still without LTE network, why? because is hardware limited.
