Is my 640 XL broken?

When I go into Settings and Updates and tap the Phone Update button, a grey bar appears on the screen as though it is lighting up but nothing happens.

It used to tell me it was last checked at whatever date and time but now it does NOTHING.

It could as well as be broken. Try performing the below and see if it helps:
1) Soft reset and try again
2) Remove microSD card and try again
3) If the above doesn't work then hard reset is the only option
