Is Surface 3 still worth buying

I like the smaller footprint but unfortunately mine suffers from extreme lag. It's painful to even surf the web sometimes. Looking to upgrade to the Pro 4.

What do you mean by extreme lag? Web pages are going to load slower than most laptops/desktops because the Atom chip isn't as powerful. But when you say extreme lag, it sounds like you have an additional problem. You could also try installing either Ghostery or uBlock Origin from the Windows Store to help cut down on page loading.

It isn't just browsing but thanks for the suggestions. I'll try Ghostery. It's more overall performance. I have it on Max Performance now and will see if that helps.

Windows 10 without the graphics hack is unbearable on the Surface 3, they throttle everything way too much to save maybe an hour battery life. I much prefer to max out the power plan and have a buttery smooth browsing experience in edge. I use my surface(s) for hours still every day and they are still good tablets when properly set up. Make sure to replace your original power brick and cord though or you will probably get the plugged in not charging problem.

I have both the Surface 3 and the Surface 4 Pro. As you may know MSFT has cancelled production of the 3. But it is still worth buying in mint used or new and at a low price. I actually really like the 3, and I really like the 3's keyboard. I have Office on it and it works fantastically.

The 4GB/128GB version is absolutely still worth it. I have a mint condition one with Type Cover and a Surface Dock that I may be selling soon since I have the SP4 now but I'm not sure if I can let it go yet. Really a cool machine and perfect size for just a tablet.

I know I am late to the party but I don't recommend a surface 3 at all. I mean there are plenty of other better 2 in 1's from Lenovo, HP, Acer, etc than this. These are mostly 12 inchers but they are a better value with most costing under 500.00 with a few even under 400.00. The core m series may not have the battery life of the atom but definitely the better performance.

I also like the Lenovo Yoga Book as a secondary computer as it works great under android so it is has a great tablet experience and a so-so laptop experience.

All the above is a better choice than a surface 3 and I think Microsoft knows this hence why no surface 4 is on the way because there is no cost effective way to do without a compromise either on performance or build material.

I'm going to jump in on this thread. What do people think of this as a replacement for a media consumption device such as a Fire Tablet or ipad? The lower end model can be found for < $300 making it a good price when compared to the alternatives. I'm not sure how the performance and usability stacks up. I don't care about running games or productivity software.
