Is the 930 still a good choice?

Hey,

I am thinking about picking up a Lumia 930. I was excited about the new phones and would have paid up to 400 bucks for them. For me the price they have now are too high, like way too high. They are going to fall though I guess. So is the 930 still a good choice (being from April 2014) or is it better to wait for a price drop? My Ativ S I'd getting fairly slow...

Would love to hear the feedback of 930 owners :)

I sold my Ativ S and bought a 930. Is faster, but heavier, battery is better, will be definitely upgraded to w10m, I think was a good move

I did the same as you but for an extra reason as well, no one outside Samsung knows if the ATIV S will be upgraded to W10M.

Spec wise you shouldn't have a problem. It's a fast phone and will remain that way for a while. Only thing I would be careful with are the several quirks and small issues most have, just make sure the seller offers a warranty since some in the us don't.

It is still a nice phone, it's still fast and Continuum and glance aside you won't be missing any big features.

Exactly. I have it, the Icon, and it's a solid shooter. Just get a case for it cause I dropped it once...okay 3 times but only one corner got dented and popped the rear backing out just a smidge. 5" screen, 20mp rear camera and good battery, once we get outta these builds it'll back to a good battery.

Definitely a very good phone. I love mine, since I like the heavy feel it has. No complaints what so ever. Okay maybe test the microphones by calling someone on loudspeaker and check if they can hear you. Other than that you're good to go.

Great phone with quirks. Honestly you probably need to be OK with having a phone with the issues, since they'll most likely happen. For me, the issues don't really impact my satisfaction as they don't affect things I use frequently. But, if any of them would be a deal breaker for you (in actual usage, not in hypothetical "flagships should be perfect" thinking) then I'd avoid it.

How bad are the quirks? From what I read the major issues are a hot back (which I don't mind) and a screen that sometimes flickers. Do I miss anything major?

Thanks for the feedback y'all!

The only major issue for me is how hot it gets, I suspect that's because of the SD800 though. The screen flickering and discoloration I haven't had, I also haven't had the screen lift issue although that could be because I have revision 2 of the hardware.

Mine only gets warm when qi charging or when playing intensive games. Certainly no more warm than any other high end phone. Overall I have no issues. It is a solid phone with a good camera. Just check everything works and you'll be happy. In fact given how much I like this phone I see no reason for me to get a 950. I'll wait till my phone dies. Btw. +1 on the phone case comment. Small dink in corner but no other damage. Good solid device.

I have had the heat issues - but it was never that bad.

Otherwise - no issues. It is a solid phone build, fast, amazing camera, great size, incredible screen. And it will get W10.

I am going to wait at least a full year of the Lumia 950 being out before considering getting it.

The Lumia 930 - cures what ails ya!

I'm on my second genuine Nokia case for my Lumia 930, accidentally dropped it & landed on the corner, the case took the impact, did its job & protected the phone. Also got a Skinomi screen protector. Really good phone, feels weighty in the hand & annoys my I phone owning friends due to Hey Cortana & wireless charging.

The occasional flicker is very brief, lasting only a fraction of a second. It's a harmless 930 quirk. :)

My issues are the warm aluminum especially if using navigation, screen flicker, and speakerphone stopped working. Very solid and reliable otherwise. Built like a tank. Great camera. Fast. Plenty to like!

OP, I think that what we are all saying is that the issues are not enough to make us hate the 930.
