Just ordered myself a Lumia 800

Just ordered my first windows phone. Managed to get a good deal from 3 UK.

24months

?10 for the first month
?30 for the next 11
then I can downgrade my package to a lower one e.g. ?15 or ?10/m and can upgrade after a total of 20 months.

Seems a lot better than the 24 months of ?30 or ?33 or ?37 they were trying to offer me.

So let's say I get on a ?10/m package after 12 months and upgrade after the next 8.


I've paid a total of ?420. I hope my sums are right because that seems great to me.

So anyway, hopefully I'll be around here looking for tips and asking questions.

I was deliberating a lot over whether to go for the lumia. I'm part of another forum who all seem to recommend the Samsung Galaxy S II which is nice but I didn't want to be one of the Android crowd or the iSheep and I do like the look of WP7 so I thought why not.

18 month contract? That would usually be the longest I would go for. It's hard to get what you want because different people tell you different things on the phone. I phoned up twice and got to the upgrades team who were adamant that ?30 was the cheapest they could do and didn't seem to care that I've been with them for 7-8 years. I phoned up again and spoke to a different department after pressing the button to say I want to leave 3 and he was very helpful and did me that deal. Happens every time though, a lot of palava.

I have to wait for Nokia handsets until they are released in Sweden next year. I was planning on buying one without a locked sim card but all I can see when I search the internet is that both Germany and the UK will not sell to non-permenant residents and as far as I can make out not without a monthly plan either.

I don't particularly like 3 Sweden and I will probably kill my current number and continue with Tele2 which has been my plan all along. Instead of a new Samsung this year I can wait until the second generation Nokias arrives next year (hopefully with Windows Phone 8 on them) because, after the news here at WPCentral that Samsung would help Samung phone owners to unlock their locked phones for a small fee, I had my phone unlocked today. So I probably will shift between my number at 3 Sweden and my regular number at Tele2 (which I have had on forwarding for the last couple of weeks) and go to and fro to be able to see how much I actually ring and how much I use of my pre-paid amount each month.
