'L' symbol in W10 Mobile notification area - huh?

What does the 'L' symbol in the notification area/status bar of Windows 10 Mobile mean?

Most likely that you have LTE connectivity.

(out of the Windows Phones I've used, some said 4G, LTE or just L to signify having 4G/LTE connectivity.)

Not related to LTE - it appears to have something to do with WiFi connectivity. Seems odd that there is no documentation anywhere on-line that I can find that explains the meaning of these symbols for Windows 10.

L near the top left near the signal does mean LTE.
