That stinks. I'm glad they gave you the credit, though.

I had ordered mine by 7am, so I figured I was safe. When I called for the credits, the sales rep said that they had been getting an unusually high volume of calls about this phone. I bet all those people are members of Windows Central Forums.

YES!! GOOD JOB TEAM!! I nagged the hell out of Tmobile on the phone for this. I had it overnight shipped and picked it up at UPS. Its faster to leave it at UPS because when they deliver, they go through every houses in the truck before they get to yours, so I opted to picking up the phone instead.

They were in stock, locked up in the cell phone store at front of the store. A kid in electronics found them for me after I found the hangars hiding behind 530's.

According to this kid, the hangars always come with the actual phones and then they are locked up until they are allowed to sell them or until someone smart enough just gets one for a customer. So it could be that they have been in stores for as long as the hangars have been.

Just out of curiosity, what time did you order yesterday?
I ordered 10 in the morning, and I did an overnight which coated 24 bucks at first, but Tmobile said they could apply that 24 to my bill and do the overnight shipping for free.

I was curious because I order mine about 12:45 PDT and got a notification this a.m. that it would ship when the receive inventory. Sometime between when I ordered and you did, the must have sold out.

Well I finally struck Gold :)

I decided to stop at my local Walmart again on the way home just for the hell of it. Of course, as expected, they still didn't have any in stock but they had a T-Mobile rep who happened to be there and said that one further away had one in stock, and she thought it odd they'd only order one. I was thinking of going there, when the Walmart Associate then checked some other nearby Walmarts for me, and found one nearer that had four! So off I went. Of course they were not on display and were in a cupboard. It was funny as the associate asked if I wanted to buy all of them lol

I'm still deciding if this one will replace my wife's Android phone or mine. Yes, we went Android after the 521, not because of Windows Phone itself but because of some shortcomings it had. One of the reasons for coming back was we did like the camera on the 521 as low end Android cameras are generally not the greatest.

This phone is bigger than I thought it would be, but in a good way of course. I guess I'll now be spending my evening setting it up.

Yeah - as I stated earlier I found a smart kid working in electronics, that also worked up front at the cell phone kiosk, and after I found the 640 hangars hidden behind the 530, he went up front and found them locked up. As soon as he saw the hangars he knew they had them because the hangars actually ship with the phones. In the shipping box, they are sandwiched between each 640 box and there will generally be 2-3 hangars for every single handset they take delivery of.

So unless this kid is wrong, which I doubt because he seemed like the rare, intelligent human being working at Walmart, it would appear that they had them for weeks now and it is just one of those things that gets lost in the shuffle in terms of getting accurate answers. I guess they typically take delivery of things weeks in advance and sit on them. Video games get sold early all the time by mistake, for instance.

Decided to hit up the local Wal-Mart this evening and they had one in stock. After waiting for an associate, I came home, threw in my SIM and was ready to rock & roll.

The screen is pretty impressive, I had been using an 810 with a cracked screen since Easter, so it's hard to judge just how big of a jump it is.

I had a Blu WinHD for a while, and the 640 is much better in your hands. One cool thing is that when I started it up, it let me pick a phone to sync to my settings from - since the HD was 8.1, I sync'd that, and it loaded all the apps, even organized my tiles like I had them, and loaded my ringtone.

Finally convinced the wife to jump to WP, going to pick her up a 635 here in the next few weeks (she wants something smaller than the 640)

When you get a confirmation from UPS, change the delivery to pick up at your local UPS. You may end up waiting till the end of the day. I quickly switched to pick up to get it myself at 8 in the morning. UPS doesn't deliver anything to me till 5PM. I'm the last in their route and I am nto usually home so I dont want them leaving it at the door.

Good luck.

Setup the 640 for my wife. The thing that has soured it a little for me is the is the way it previews text messages on the lock screen. I had forgotten about that the last time I used a Windows Phone. I can't believe there still isn't an option to turn this off. Microsoft seems to have this contrary mindset. I remember when Windows Phone first came out and they decided you couldn't connect to wifi with a hidden ssd which was silly and thankfully they fixed that, yet on the other hand they don't care about privacy it seems with text messaging.

Earlier this week I was in my local Walmart. I (almost) always take a walk through the mobile section while I'm there, and I saw that they had one T-Mobile 640 on the shelf (hangar).

It was funny as the associate asked if I wanted to buy all of them lol

Ha maybe it's one of my local Walmarts, and they remember when the 521 was released. I may or may not have cleaned out 3 or 4 area Walmarts of their entire stock!

You should be able to pick what app gets the detail on the lock screen.

Settings -> Lock Screen -> anything but Messaging

If you are still looking, the WM website will now show you where they are in stock. (wasn't working yesterday).

I don't quite understand this. Are you talking about banner notifications or the lock screen detailed status? You can turn both of those off. Or something else?

Too late. Almost paid $5 to have the delivery address changed but it would have delayed it until Monday. I have to be home at 2:00 anyway.
