when i wake up my battery drops 15 to 20% at night without using cell phone, its terrible while the background apps are only 4 to 5 that run in background..anyone facing this issue in this regard???

What device do you have? How long have you been running the device with 8.1 Preview GDR1?

I had terrible battery life the first day on my 920, but it settled down and has been fine ever since. I installed the update on the first day it was available.

It feels like Battery is Improving day by day.. Give some time for OS to settle down.
If u have Facebook sync and other such things, those run in background to update profile pics and other data. So its draining fast on first few days...

I am using 720..i already did a soft reset but nothng noticable...6% to 8% discharge per hour

Allow me one question, as I've been asking me every single time I read someone complaining about battery consumption during the night. Maybe I'm strange, but I use to charge my device while I'm asleep. What better time to charge is there, when you definitely are not going to use your device?

While thats true, that doesnt answer why the battery usage overnight is so poor...or for people like me who have pets that like to chew on wires, and since my phone is my alarm clock i need it next to me.

TC, I had the exact same problem...i even put battery saver ON for multiple nights only to still have the same about of battery drained over sleep. I believe this may be related to Live Folders or some other functions, i disabled Cortana but it didnt make a difference. Ive now reverted back to Prod Cyan/8.1 and my battery is back to normal (draining 3-5% over sleep).

Ive got a 1020, Rogers.

Pay attention to cell service wherever you leave your device at night. I've noticed that my LTE service is draining the battery much more since upgrading to Windows Phone 8.1 DP. Disabling LTE drastically improves battery life.

Sometimes if i check update, i received message "there was a temporary issue with a server...(80072ee7)

Please help me

Os(wp 8.1 update 1 ,l625)

My area doesn't get LTE at home, it stays 3G. With that said, running no DP (GDR1) has corrected my problems.

I don't have battery drain anymore after 2 weeks of using. Also, I kept using battery saver all the time with excluding apps I want to work in background. My usage is heavy but no games yet. I charge it once a day. I can use it for 2 days if I use the phone lightly but I can't. Try turning off wifi while sleeping.

That won't help much. I'm not sure who ever came up with this urban mystery that WiFi is a battery drainer. It's the opposite. Keeping WiFi off and completely relying on your cellular connection will drain your battery much faster than the other way round.

Lumia 625
Updated and my battery has drained much more than usual. Hopefully it will get better. I used to be able to turn off background tasks. However there does not seem to be an option to do that now???
Cheers.

Sorry to forget mentioning that I don't use any plan and I use 2g too. I only connect to wifi when available. I have also a USB 3g key (Huawei e585) which I need to turn wifi on to connect to it. I don't have heating issues when I charge my 930 because I turn off the wifi.

Battery saver is the new background task controller.

same here - I'm getting horrific battery performance on my Lumia 820. It drains about 10% per hour. Internet Explorer seems to be the main culprit, at least according to Battery Sense. I've experimented with turning off Cortana and various live tiles but battery performance is markedly worse than before - and way below what is acceptable for a modern smartphone.

Glad to see its not just my phone (ATIV S) then. Hopefully it settles down in a few days or they release an update like they did for the 8.1 when that first released and drained the battery.

I'm using a L625 and I've found battery drain has been increased since the latest dev preview. I was getting 1.5 days. Now its dropped to 1 day, 8 hours. Four hours less usage is considerable since there's been no change to my usage.

And before anyone asks, I have restarted my phone a few times.

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing battery drain issues. Hopefully it gets corrected soon.
