L820 wihtout display

Does lumia 820 turn on if display is damaged or disconnected, or does it charge the battery? i need to know because service told me i need to replace motherboard i installed brand new motherboard but it wont turn on and even if i connect charger theres no power coming to the pins that connect battery, so i would like to know if my motherboard is OK
