So I bought the Surface and it made me realize, as much as I enjoy Windows 8 without a touchscreen on my laptop, having a laptop with a touchscreen would be nice.

Here is my question: Is a laptop with a touchscreen fun to use? (one that only opens like a normal laptop and doesn't turn into a tablet). There is a gaming notebook from Sony that has a touchscreen for $999. I would gladly pay an extra 100 just to be able to have the screen lay flat like a tablet but I can't seem to find something like that (at a reasonable price).

Please only answer if you have a regular laptop with a touchscreen. Thanks!

I bought this Toshiba on Saturday.

Toshiba Satellite 14" TouchScreen Laptop 6GB Memory 750GB Hard Drive P845t-S4310 - Best Buy

I really like having the touch screen. It does makes the laptop fun to use and gives another avenue in computing use. This Toshiba to me is at the size limit for making a touch screen worth while. I am not a PC gamer so I can't really comment on that aspect.

I originally had a Levono Twist (hybrid) on preorder, but Amazon failed to get any for the W8 launch. I was bummed that I didn't get the Twist at first as I wanted a Tablet and PC in one device to replace my iPad and desktop. But in the end I got a more powerful device that is still easy to carry around. :)

Touch screen makes a great difference for:
Using the laptop in bed / on the sofa (much quicker tapping a web link than using the trackpad)
Playing games (drag and drop etc. so much nicer on touch - and many of the new games are designed around it).
Using a stylus if your laptop supports that - much more natural for touching up pictures, and of course writing notes in e.g. OneNote can be sometimes more useful than typing (I use it in client meetings to sketch ideas that I want to be able to save).
We're going to see more and more apps (and perhaps in the future web sites) supporting more natural forms of interaction (i.e. touch).

And most of all just because it's cool to have. You'll find yourself prodding at non-touch devices wondering why on earth they aren't working ;)

I am just as fast on my laptop with Windows 8 as I was on Windows 7. That said, I am much faster with Windows 8 on the Surface than Windows 8 on my non-touch laptop.
