I think current situation is that we have two 1.5 generation models (Titan 2 and Lumia 900) owners who just purchased the devices not too long ago, rest of the users probably already owned their device for a year or more.

It definitely sucks to be those people. It's like buying the iPhone 4 a month before the 4S was announced, past your 30-day return.

I would have waited, to be honest. Not just because of the uncertainly surrounding upgrades, but because I wouldn't want to be stuck with a contract and a single-core phone in 2014.

Its really easy NOT to resize your tiles and just keep everything looking like WP7 does today, you are not forced to resize your tiles. Or did I miss something.....:dry

Socialcarpet you are clueless about anything I have said. I get new devices every few months so I can clearly afford it. That has zero to do with how Microsoft has unnecessarily forced me into new hardware. They have been doing this to me for 20 years so stupid me.

Microsoft forced you into new hardware, did they?

I'm pretty sure you can use the phone you have for as long as you'd like and you'll be just fine.

I don't think Steve Ballmer is going to come to your house and pry the phone out of your hand and force a brand new one on you.

No one is FORCING anyone to do anything.

Yes, for 20 years Microsoft has developed new software, and yes over the course of 20 years that did sometimes require that you actually needed to buy new hardware to use the new software. Sorry. I know Microsoft is like the third reich for doing that to you. They should all be in war crimes tribunals in the Hague for this injustice to humanity.

Stupid you? Yes, I have to agree, you're stupid.

Just stop using any electronic devices, because I hate to break it to you, but there's a good possibility of some major advances in the next 20 years that you just MIGHT have to buy new hardware to take advantage of.

I think you should cry a little more. Seriously you have beef with adjustable start screen because of an arrow icon. I'm sure in your billiance you will create an app that will put it back...when you do share it with us...please. And as far as stoping phone sales until WP8 is released, I don't think the average person has a clue. Nor do they care. If I ask my folks why they bought the iPhone...upgradeability is not mentioned. At least 50% of consumers dont know the difference. I don't imaging sales will drop to much.

Last thing. If you really are this fickle, you were never destined to stay with the brand anyway. But go ahead, purchase an android or iphone so you can watch over someones shoulder on a bus in January as they are playing some 3D XBOX live game on their Nokia Lumia PV as your phone stutters(lags) the word DROID!!!!

Good day

Wow. I will never understand why some members here are wonderful and some are so...defensive (to put it nicely). I'm pretty sure I said I love Windows Phone at the end, and yeah, sales will probably drop. Sales reps are so incredibly misinformed that they will tell people there will be no updates.
Personal attacks....really? Is this middle school? I never said I was switching. I'm excited for the next Lumias, I just really hope they change some things. I could live with the new Start screen, it's just no longer my favorite part.
Finally, this whole "Android lags, always" thing needs to end. Why must we all have one platform we love and hate everything else? Windows Phone is my favorite, but I'll admit that Google really stepped up its game with ICS and even Android phones like the One X/S can be pretty cool. Android 4.0 is pretty slick. Saying Android "stutters/lags" with everything is just as bad as when people assume WinPhone7 is the same as WinMo6.x.

Agreed. I liked the negative space (or whatever it is).

I'm pretty sure Samsung doesn't need Windows Phone, but I would think HTC could do well with Windows Phone if their support was better. Wasn't there a figure that said Samsung and Apple made 99% of the profits in the mobile phone market? And another one that said Samsung sells 44% of the Android devices, while HTC is under 10%?

I think you may be right about the sales reps, sometimes they're very uninformed. And what about all those AT&T reps who were given or forced to use a Lumia 900 as their corporate/business device? What are they going to say when they learn that they're only getting 7.8? Yikes.

I'm not sure about the naming, it seems too Samsungy. Doesn't really sound cool to me either for some reason.

I agree with almost everything you said! Sales reps are the biggest hurdle, and screwing them out of 8 was a poor choice.

Nah, some people paid out right. And you are probably paying $70 (voice+data) * 24 (mo) to be locked in the contract that doesn't give you eligibility to upgrade until 18 months later. Any cool new WP8, Android, Blackberry 10, iPhone5/5s you won't get unless you pay more for another account or pay it out right.

As Nokia owner you are either making billion of dollars that you don't care that your 2 months old phone is already/almost obsolete, or you just don't care getting bent over .

I think current situation is that we have two 1.5 generation models (Titan 2 and Lumia 900) owners who just purchased the devices not too long ago, rest of the users probably already owned their device for a year or more.

I guess I just don't feel like I'm getting "bent over" :dunno:

Have fun with your Android phone that will lag, freeze and always force close apps, as well as Google tracking every single step you take and then selling it for a profit. While the rest of us will be enjoying a truly unified, stable experience.

Nobody forced anyone into anything.

Let me get this straight. Microsoft is stupid for not letting your phone which you probably got for free upgrade to features that will render it painful to use or make it useless? Don't understand the logic there, the SGS2 is even struggling hard with the ICS update as well as other Android phones. That's the kinda mess you will encounter when you goto Android.
The GSII is better with Android 4.0. Not sure where you heard that.
Also, what makes you assume my phone was free? I've had a Quantum since NoDo, actually, and I'm glad it got anything. I would be pissed if my "free" Lumia 900 on contract wasn't getting 8, but I'm not in that boat.
I understand the hardware problem here, but I think they're stupid to let the media run with "NO WP8 FOR CURRENT DEVICES." You and I understand that 7.8 is basically 8 that supports our phones' hardware, but most people won't realize that from the article headlines out there right now.

Windows Phone 7 is not dead, there will still be apps that are developed for it (apps aren't everything anyway).

When was the last time we got a cool app? There's no instant gram, Pandora or temple run and now we sure as **** not getting it. Apps are important, that's why IOS is so popular yet it ls basically an app launcher. Also this is supposed to be a happy topic.

Maybe they could release a free update that gives current users some of the same features of WP8 on their current phones?

Oh wait, that's right. THEY ARE DOING THAT.

So answer me this. I saw this number on another post. There are 12+ million Windows Phones out there.

There are zero WP8 and W8 devices out there.

Is a developer going to create an app that only runs on the new platform and ignore the old one that has millions of users?

Don't you think the prospect of knowing there could be a crap ton of WP8 and W8 devices out would maybe motivate developers like Instragram and Pandora to go ahead and create an app that will work on WP7.x now knowing it will work on WP8 when it launches?

*cough* Words With Friends and Draw Something *cough*

I love how people kept complaining about that, now it's coming, but instead people ignore it and find something else to complain about.

"What Microsoft is doing with Windows Phone 8 is what it has to do: laying cement for an OS that will last deep into the future?or at least as long as you'll own your phone. Your Lumia is based on Windows CE, software that was first released during the Clinton administration. It's ancient, and it's holding the entire platform back. WP8, and its incompatibility with the phone you might own right now, is a much-needed fresh start."

Sorry, But Microsoft Screwing Windows Phone Fans Is the Right Thing To Do
While I see the points made in that article those people who recently purchased, on a 2 year contract (!), a Windows Phone don't really care if Windows CE is over a decade old, most likely they don't even know what Windows CE is or why it had to be abandoned. What they care is that they got a phone a short time ago which "won't get the new update and won't get the new apps". Most don't read blogs/tech news/forums so this is the message which they'll get from the mainstream media. For Microsoft not so much of a problem, but potentially devastating for Nokia who is already struggling.

If you bought it for $99 like a lot of people did, then you'll have no problem getting your money back. ****, I'd buy it off you.

Why are you still believing you are only paying $99?

What about my contract? Can you take over the contract so I can move on to iPhone or Android? I still have 22 months left, that's 22 * $70 = $1540.

People are still buying the old iPhone 4 even though it doesn't have Siri and will not get turn by turn navigation. People are clueless. :)
