I already stopped caring about this phone, I'm holding a relic. Windows 8 is where is at.

You should probably just smash your phone to pieces then.

Yesterday it was pretty cool. Today it's a piece of crap relic that is dead to the world and worthless.

Probably shouldn't buy a WP8 phone either. After all that is just going to be a worthless piece of crap relic too when WP9 is introduced. Why set yourself up for all that disappointment?

So it's my Optimus 7, but no one is paying 200 dollars on contract for it. Windows Phone is entering BlackBerry territory right now.

"What Microsoft is doing with Windows Phone 8 is what it has to do: laying cement for an OS that will last deep into the future?or at least as long as you'll own your phone. Your Lumia is based on Windows CE, software that was first released during the Clinton administration. It's ancient, and it's holding the entire platform back. WP8, and its incompatibility with the phone you might own right now, is a much-needed fresh start."

Sorry, But Microsoft Screwing Windows Phone Fans Is the Right Thing To Do

It's funny because every WP "fan" was saying you don't need multiple cores...specs are not important. Which is/was ridiculous. Specs are important. Microsoft is finally releasing a phone that should have been released the first go around.

Aren't there a bunch of relevant apps coming to wp7 still like paypal, angry birds, nokia apps etc etc?

Nokia releasing like three new apps or updates next week.

I am sure it was up to instagram and pandora to develop for WP7, but chose not too. If they didnt want to after almost 2 years, why would they now? Its not like MS doesnt want them.

Just got to wait till wp8, but in the mean time, i clearly see support from Nokia/MS for my 900

It is what it is. For owners of old Window 7 phones complaining, they need to stop looking cheap. I myself am grateful to be getting a near Windows 8 upgrade this fall. Otherwise will plan to buy a phone that can handle WP8.

I do feel bad for Lumia 900 owners that just bought a 500 dollar phone, and i'm sure sales for the phone have dropped already as of today

Wp7.8 , Windows 8 light, would of been the same thing, its just Windows 8 light would of sounded better. Or Windows 8s , s standing for single core. Just having to be able to upgrade to WP including something starting with 8 after WP , would of been a smarter marketing strategy and salvaged phone sales of Lumia 900, 800, Titan 2, Focus 2 a bit better.

Whatever its called, we all know won't magically make the single core phone, dual core and non hd screen HD. Again i feel owner and fans are most upset that they can't update to WP 8 form name OS.

Also i don't think 7.8 will be the end of major updates for Windows 7 phones. There will prob b a 7.85, 7.9 (windows 9?) and lastly 7.95. After that only prob patches , security updates, but these phones will be considered extinct by then.

Lastly the main complaint i have about the mobile industry is how big these phones are getting. Eventually tablets will be actually phones. I would love to see a phone company stick with 4.0, 4.3 size screens while having to power up everything else.

The GSII is better with Android 4.0. Not sure where you heard that.
Also, what makes you assume my phone was free? I've had a Quantum since NoDo, actually, and I'm glad it got anything. I would be pissed if my "free" Lumia 900 on contract wasn't getting 8, but I'm not in that boat.
I understand the hardware problem here, but I think they're stupid to let the media run with "NO WP8 FOR CURRENT DEVICES." You and I understand that 7.8 is basically 8 that supports our phones' hardware, but most people won't realize that from the article headlines out there right now.

Not sure if it's better, there were mounds of complaints on the Tmonews article about ICS for the GS2.

If you want to use the word "obsolete" in your argument, well, the Lumia phones were obsolete from the start. They had less powerful components that the competition. The announcement of WP8 and the fact the Lumia line will get MOST OF THE SAME FEATURES doesn't change anything.

Seriously I don't understand all this whining. If MS had called it WP8 Lite, I'm sure we'd have 1/3 of all the rant thread started today.

Exactly, for all those people, if you knew it was obsolete, then why did you buy it?

Heck, even give us the option of buying a Windows 8 device at $300 or $350. Better than the $500-$600 the devices will cost unlocked.

Just to clarify, at least in the U.S, when you buy at normal retail, you are buying off-contract, not unlocked. The phone is still locked to that carrier.

Embrace Windows Phone 9. I'm using a 2010 phone that won't get more big updates, is dead. Two years is good life for a phone, when my contract ran off they will be new Windows8 phones out there.

I'm not even angry, I'm looking forward to the new phones. I bought this phone last month off contract btw, yet I'm pretty calm. Because I accept this is as dead, you guys need to do that also and either look forward to wp8 or move on. WP7 is over fellas, done.

Nokia has apps releasing next week :o, no new apps?

Exclusive EA games, paypal, etc still due to release? no new apps?

I would have waited, to be honest. Not just because of the uncertainly surrounding upgrades, but because I wouldn't want to be stuck with a contract and a single-core phone in 2014.

Agreed. While i love the build of the 900 and think the design is one of the best on the market, I always felt it wasn't worth the 2 year commitment since the specs were so low and we all knew that WP8 required a dual core processor.

This ^

With the lack of specs WP has this announcement should have been realized by many. It was old when it was first released. Everyone just jumped on "we don't need it."

Let's see... Apple releases iPhone 4S with Siri, which works on older iPhones, but Apple doesn't allow it so now you have to buy a 4S....mmm, i wonder who's getting screwed worse. At least MS is being honest about their software needing new hardware. Just relax, enjoy your free phone (for many). I'm already saving for my new W8 phone...since I bought the lumia 900, hehe. I like the windows phone OS and I'll continue to support it until something better comes out, which at the moment there isn't. I already did the iPhone, which is now boring, and the messy android. Bring on W8!!

It should be noted the OP doesn't even have a 900. So what exactly are you upset about? Did you get mad when Sony stopped making backwards compatible PS3's? It's called progress.

Windows Phone 7 needed to die. Windows 8 is what we needed all alone, actual Windows oh the phone.

In light of how much phones cost these days a bunch of you talked and posted about how 99 dollars was a bargin, or more like a steal when compared to what you get for the cost. In fact, a lot of you got yours for free. 7.8 is as close as that hardware can get to 8. Don't you still get almost everything except NFC, SD card support, dual-core, and HD resolution? I'm not sure about WP8 apps compatibility. They cant physically update the hardware over they air.

"iOS still supports iphone 3g" Maybe, but I hear not very well. Ipad 1 will not be getting the iOS 6 update and eventually older iphones will not get future updates; at some point it become physically impossible to support older tech.

Nokia knew this was going to be the case. Did we expect them to wait until this coming December to sell the Lumias. They're trying to stay viable and had no choice but to make and sell the Lumia line.

If I bought the 900 (only reason I didn't is cause sprint sold it soul to iphone and only has the arrive) I would be ticked as well but I also understand how fast tech evolves.

I bought out the remaining months of my contract to get the arrive for $99. Are y'all going to buy out what will be about 16 months in December to get WP8, or pay full price, or just wait it out?

Or less. Heck, they could have called it WP8 and just pointed out that it would be missing features like Apple does. Instead they acknowledged that there is a difference and now people are acting like MS is remotely detonating their phones tomorrow.
