I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm glad i still have my Nokia N8 running Symbian Belle.

It only has one problem when compared to the current crop of smartphones the screen, which is smaller than the Nokia Lumia 800, however the OS has more features than any WP7.5 phone.

If WP8 has less features than my N8 I might have to move to Andriod, but just like everyone else I will have to wait and see.

ps. My ideal phone would be a cross of the N8 and Lumia 900.

While I understand your frustration, you could look at it more positively and that is by the time you're available for your next upgrade WP9 will be available and if you think about it you'll have even better hardware. For example, I don't know if you watched the video of the summit but Joe Belfiore said that ATT, Verizon, and T-mobile haven't even finalized NFC payments.

I still think Mango users will still get some version of Wallet and IE10 at the very least, just because I can't imagine those being that heavily tied to the kernel. Besides Nokia will still do everything it can to make sure your experience with your 900 still meets a good portion of your daily needs. Plus, at that point of your next upgrade the phone OEMs might diversify their Windows Phone line with even more types of SoCs meaning you could have a phone with even greater battery life than what Qualcomm can deliver with its chips.

I know it seems tough, but there's really a brighter future by the time your next upgrade rolls around (assuming you wait that long heh).

My problem is it felt like they sold me last years truck when they had the new one's hidden behind the dealership....and the newer one's have a bigger engine....and more leg room...and a better sound system.....just seams sneeky as **** to me and i doubt i can trust them again .........

Yeah I gotcha. It does suck, but you live and learn. I wouldn't let that take your faith away. Just time your next purchase and you should be good for the future. If you do a bit of googling you should be able to find a, I believe, leaked roadmap that MS has/had on how the life cycles of all their software from Windows, Office, Exchange, Windows Phone, etc.

The iPhone 3GS may get iOS6, but its not like you can use Siri with it or run Retina apps.
It's the same with windows phone. Think about it, without the specific hardware the software is just as useless. This means 64 core support and HD displays. So MS came up with 7.8 -- It's like Windows Phone 7 with Apollo's image and attitude, but you don't get the heart and soul.

I mean c'mon, most iP4 users bought iP4S just for Siri.

The difference between Apple and Microsoft is Microsoft TELLS people about it and Apple HIDES it!!!

Developers will not have to compile two different apps on IOS6. The 3GS may not get Siri but it will run IOS6 apps.

This is why most people are upset about this.

Another difference:

Apple is selling 30+ millions of iphone per quarter and ms is selling about 1 or 2 millions.

Fair point!

Eventually though hopefully Microsoft's OS will push Apple close... Because they way its set up with Windows 8..... but who knows?

So you can run iOS6 apps that make use of the gyroscope on the 3GS?

Ah, OK.

I'd jump on that plan too if I could live with dial-up modem data speeds, especially since the Lumia 900 can't even take advantage of that 200 mb of "4G" speed you get with the cheapest plan before the speed is throttled. You've actually got a monthly 3G plan, technically speaking, and it's not even fast 3G.

I don't like paying $100+ a month for a phone, but if I'm going to have a smartphone, I definitely want 4G/LTE speed to go along with it.

I thought about going with the Lumia 710 and the Monthly 4G plan, since the 710 is designed to work with T-mobiles network, so it can take advantage of their enhanced 3G, and then going with the $70/month plan for unlimited 4G. That is actually a pretty good deal all things considered. In the end though, I just couldn't get myself to like the 710 in the same way I like the 900.

If T-mobile actually sold the 900, so there was a version that actually worked with their fast 3G(4G) network I would seriously consider it. It wouldn't be as fast as LTE, but fast enough.

I'm betting T-mobile will have more Windows Phones before too long though. Maybe next time.

NO!!!

I'm on Straight Talk using ATT network, NOT T-mobile. I get 4G here (we dont have LTE yet) for $45 unlimited. It is not throttled.

You will not be able to run a WP8 app on WP7.X even if it doesn't need missing sensors.

I think the problem people have with is the most will be the app situation. Despite the legacy OS usage on android/iOS most apps can still run a lot of apps. Now WP 7 had a timy app collection and now it's being abandoned by MS meaning you now have users in a 2 year contract with say a lumia 900 who will likely not be getting any new apps or updates for existing apps for those two years until they can get an update. That's why they are upset and angry. And there is an excellent chance if that happening too. I see little reason why developers will make new apps for for wp7 when windows 8 will have potentially larger market penetration

Whoops, my mistake.

Yeah seems like a good deal. No LTE though, even if you live in an LTE area, and there are some other limitations, like you get throttled for excessive data use if you go over 2 GB a month, but all things considered it certainly sounds like a much better deal than being on a contract. I doubt I go over 2 GB most months anyway. Maybe I will look into this when my contract is up. :)

wp 7.8 and smartglass

Anyone who suggests that not updating current WPs to wp8 is not a big deal please answer this.

Is smartglass a big deal for microsoft and wp users?
Will wp 7.8 get smartglass?

I assume that smartglass will use native code.
