LG slim portable DVD writer with Lenovo and windows 8

I am trying to play DVDs (Insanity ones specifically) from my LG slim portable DVD writer (model SP60N50) on my Lenovo computer (equipped with Windows 8). It does not allow the media to play..is there a specific Windows App that I need to purchase for this to play? Any suggestions?
