Live.com alias not showing up in new mail

Okay, new WP user...I use a live.com address, and I used the "alias" as well (outlook.com). After a week I noticed that the outlook.com email does not trigger a new message notification. In fact, I have to navigate into the live sub menu, select the outlook.com folder to see messages. This can't be right, since the cruddy Android mail client would pull and notify me I had new messages in that inbox.

What am I doing wrong? Don't tell me MS blew it on their own email account on their own operating system in their own phone...

Any ideas?
