Any ideas?

Well mine is currently showing Murmansk, it was currently showing Rio, it has now upped the counter to 3.

I have no idea what that means either NairobiWP7.

I'm sure we'll find out eventually.

Welcome along to WPC. :)

Just got a reply from the developer:

"Hi,

Just several nice places all over the world. You will like them
If not you can easily switch it off in settings.

Thanks,
Alexey."

That answers that

Well I have Paris now, but wondering why they need to have a digit on the tile spoiling the place of the day. Seems strange to me, having a counter on it.

the developer said it doesnt mean anything. just a number.
i find it distracting and misleading. I always think I have a notification.

Yes it's a very silly idea wizake.

I guess the counter just displays the total count of the new live tile picture.

When it gets to 99, that's what will be permanently displayed. Weird or what LOL

Moscow today (5), but the live tile doesn't seem to update unless you load up the app, so not very live. :(

Hello,

You are right. Previously it was just reference number for place displayed.
Now we are removed this number and display Google Latitude "Nearby Alert" if you have latitude friends nearby.

Please contact support gmaps.wp7@gmail.com or user voice forum at Wishlist: Top (112 ideas) if you have any ideas.
You can also find us at twitter @gmapsWP7 and facebook GMaps | Facebook

Thanks,
Alexey
