Live Tiles - How to make them dead?

I noticed that some of my apps, when pinned to the start menu, automatically act as Live Tiles. However, some of them I do not want as Live Tiles (Weave, for example).

I don't see any settings in the app themselves to turn the Live Tile on/off. Is this an OS option somewhere? The size of the tile on the start screen doesn't seem to make a difference either.

How do I make the Live Tiles more of a dead tile?

If you turn off the background agent, (Settings, swipe right, background apps) that usually does it.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Although I don't want all my Live Tiles to be dead, I just want certain ones to be dead.
