Live Tiles updating without background task

There is something strange going on here:

On my HTC 8X the Live Tiles of

• Asana WP (unter settings "LiveTiles" ist Off)
• Sleeve Music (unter settings "Enable/disable livetile updates" is Off)

keep updating, even if they're blocked under background tasks.


I can't really tell if this is just since Update 3 or GDR2 (which I installed just on and a half weeks before 3).

Edit: Sorry, I somehow missed the point that you turned live tiles off in the apps' settings. I have no idea what's going on there.

Live tiles can update without background task, that doesn't have to be connected.

I don't have the several ways how this can be achieved in mind, but maybe a developer will pass this post and can explain it to you, or maybe you'll find something using the search.

I think the one without background task is this one:

Programmatically, by using a cloud service with push notifications.

I also PMed this post to both the developers.

After allowing again and blocking again the Live Tile update of Asana WP seems to have stopped updating, e. g. the back of the Live Tile doesn't show up again.

Sleeve is still displaying the last artist post on the back of the Live Tile after launching the app and closing it, and I am pretty sure I have seen another artist's update while not launching the app again, but will have a closer look at this ...
