Probably a bad tiltle, but couldn't think of anything better.
Usually I want to leave location services on. Mainly for finding my phone (used it once and You really don't appreciate that function until you have needed it), photo tagging, checking in etc.
But the last few days I have tried to turn it off and I really feel that battery life has become much more consistent (read better)
Now this should not turn into a battery life discussion, I think there is enough threads with those..
What I have noticed and what made me try rp turn off location services was that the location symbol was randomly and often showing up even though I was not using apps that would need it. Bing weather has location service turned off and I only have background services allowed for Flux, TrueCalendar, Endomondo, supertimer and network dashboard. I don't think these should use location services anyway.
So my core question what was accessing the location service?
Going back to Bing Weather I think that is the only app I have seen with an option to turn off usage of location inside the app settings. But I see many apps that request allowance to access location upon installation, many of those apps do not have anything to do with location and I wish the location service allowance could be rewoked after installation.
Also I wish that we could see somewhere which apps we have granted allowance to the location service. And maybe even centrally manage the allowances for all the apps.
I get that location can be a very useful and sometimes even crucial service, but it is kind of sad that some apps use it for no apparent reason making me want to turn it off.
I could hard reset and deny installing all apps that request the service, but frankly that's not on the agenda right now..
So, what to do...
