Lock screen notifications and black phone screen - proximity sensor?

As of today I have two new problems on my 930.

1. Notifications do not wake up the phone screen when it's locked. I have to press the power button twice and when I do that, tapping the notification doesn't do anything.
2. During phone calls, the screen is blank, as if I were hoolding the phone to my ear. Again, it takes two presses of the power button to wake the phone up, and then it goes black again after just a couple of seconds.

I have soft reset the phone but it hasn't cured it.

Recent activity - I installed Spotify yesterday - have uninstalled it and soft reset but no cure
Today's app updates are Line, GeoMeterPro, Sensie and MotionData 2.0.

Anyone have anything similar happening, or suggestions for how to cure this? Thanks!

A hard reset or using Lumia Recovery Tool might be able to solve this..

Thanks Ven. I'm hoping to avoid trying that but if I can't find any other solution I'll give it a go.
I wonder if the proximity sensor itself had failed "on" - anyone know how to test it with any other functions or apps?

Did you ever resolve this? I've had the issue with my screen being black during calls for a while now (I think ever since the last big udpate?). I don't make many calls, so it hasn't been a big issue...but I've wanted to figure it out. I don't have a screen protector, and I don't seem to have any screen lift (I've looked, and tried to push down, and it doesn't seem like that's an issue) - two of the issues that people mention as causing this.

I think it's software-related since it seemed to coincide with some updates, but I'm not totally sure. Would be curious to know if you ever solved it.

In the end I took it back to the shop, who sent it off for repair. The answer came back that it wasn't economic to repair it and they gave me a new one under warranty. I believe it was a hardware failure of the sensor. Good luck getting yours sorted out.

Have a look at the top right hand corner. Mine raised a little bit and cause the same problems. When i say a little bit i mean like 1mm. Make sure when you take it in for a repair that you specify the exact problem as i had to send mine away twice and they "fixed it" the first time but didnt.

As the screen turn off because of the proximity sensor, and as the proximity sensor also related to auto brightness check it out when your device is close to a lamp if the brightness changed also when you almost touch the sensor's area (put hand close to the sensor) if there is any change.
If so there shouldn't be any problem with sensor only CLEAN the area.
We've found the same issue on nexus devices (android) that screen turn off during phone call and didn't turn on after or during the call, when device is not near the ear.
Clean it well with a damp cloth, all this area of the proximity sensor. You should get it work now. (Sometimes the sensor is very sensitive to a little dirt)
