Love my TP2, but a few things I miss about the BB Bold . . .

Though I am head over heels in love with my TP2 (even more after the SPB 3.5 Shell install, WOW!!!!!), there are a few things I miss from my BB Bold:

1) spell checking before sending mail - is there a way to enable that? The BB would, and though I can manually start it on the TP2, the screen with the corrections that comes up covers the entire screen, so I can't even see what it was trying to change.

2) auto correct? On the BB, certain words would auto correct for me, like if I just typed i, the BB would change it to capitol I for me. If I typed dont, it would automatically change it to don't. Might not sound like a big deal, but it comes in handy when trying to type a quick E-Mail or SMS to someone while on the run. And considering I am still trying to get used to the new (real) keyboard, I mess up a whole lot (see some of my other messages posted here from my TP2 where words are not spaced right).

3) as mentioned earlier by someone else - Slacker (like Pandora but I think a bit better) is something I sure do miss a lot

4) is there a talking clock and alarm anyone for this? Most I have looked at online only talk about sound files, but never speaking out the time. I used the one I bought for my BB daily (so I know how late I am for work LOL)

5) is there a setting to make the snooze last 10 minutes, not the 5 it seems is default?

Then there is a weird problem I started having. Internet Explorer opens up in zoomed mode. And I cannot seem to get it to unzoom to normal. And if I try to use the menu's zoom controls it will zoom out. But the moment I leave that menu, it blows up gigantic again. I have gotten used to using Opera nearly all the time, but some websites (like Wells Fargon online banking) does not recognize Opera, so there are times MSIE is needed excusively (unless there is a Firefox mobile too?).

Is this for the alarm or for calender events?

This is for the alarm. The clock on the BB Bold had a lot of options on it, and you could easily set the alarm time and the snooze interval. Plus, until the BB went to sleep, the alarm was the "screensave" sort of screen with the alarm and one click change options right there for you. Of course, I imagine there might be something similar for the WM phone available, but at a co$t. :)

I don't know if I would go *THAT* far yet, but of course I only had the Bold and not a Storm. And from what I had read for some time, the first Storm had a lot of problems. Now if the newer Storm 2 is much better, it might be a thought. But after having "iPhone envy", or envy of every touch phone while having my Bold, so far this TP2 has been awesome for me. For one thing, it is soooo nice to have REAL web pages instead of "lite" versions on the Bold, not to mention the better speed of VZW over AT&T! And I would say the TP2 is a very nice blend of the entertainment crowd (iPone fanatics) as well as the mostly business only of most BB's. And as I am not "hard core" either way, then this fits me quite nicely. Though I will admit to all too often feeling claustiphobic with the TP2 screen, the Storm & Storm 2's larger screen might be of interest. But then I DO like having a real keyboard (even if just like on the Bold) vs a screen keyboard where my larger "stubby" fingers keep pressing multiple keys at a time :( Also, when using an onscreen keyboard, you again lose near 1/2 of your screen real estate. At least having 30 days to try the TP2, and the Storm 2 is coming in a few days, there is time to think :)

Lets take them one at a time:

1) No no auto spell check sorry. The menu issue is a Touch Flow 3d thing if you turn off touch flow your Spell checker wont cover the screen any more.

2) Do you have xt9 enabled? Tap the software keyboard you will see xt9-abc on the LH side tap XT9. Malatesta wrote an article on another option back when he first got his TP2 but I can find it. I will keep looking.

3) Have you tried Groove Fish

4) Microsoft Voice Command can tell you what the time is like activate MSVC and say what time is it your PPC will tell you the time.

5) Actually 4 and 5 combined G-Alarm hands down the best alarm option for Windows Mobile. There is a talking alarm option but I haven't tried to use it. There is a trial version so you can check it out but its well worth the $6

Fox mobile is still in beta its called Fennice. But that wont help the zoom issue have you tried the Zoom bar on the front of your TP2?

I'm confused about the comment on the displays for the TP2 versus the Storm.

TP2 display: 3.6" Tilt, Touch–sensitive Display: 480x800 pixel WVGA resolution; 64K color support TFT–LCD

The Storm/Storm2 display: High resolution (480x360 pixel), 3.25" color, TFT LCD. Supports over 65k colors

Might I suggest you take a visit to http://forum.xda-developers.com/

There is more information over there than one person could read in a lifetime. They had a TP2 forum 6 months or more before the first launch. They have great suggestions for software of everykind and some more advanced stuff if you choose to get involved.

There are general boards and then a board dedicated to each individual HTC phone.

Good Luck!

wow, a lot of little nitpicking for such a great device. more apps should be forthcoming. for internet, try skyfire. sometimes a little buggy, but overall the best web browser I've used on a phone.

While waiting to get my Windows 7 at the local UPS Depot last night ($#^#@ UPS screwed up another delivery, yet again!!!!!!), I met a guy from BB who just happened to have the not yet released BB Storm 2 (with the latest version 5 software). And all I can say is WOW!!!!!!! It is FAST and RESPONSIVE! And comparing phones next to each other, it DOES have a bigger and wider screen. I seen it first hand, physically, side to side, tip to tip. I do love my TP2, but perhaps maybe my frustration with my BB Bold might have been more due to AT&T's poor service quality than the phone. So perhpas when the Storm 2 does come out, I will be giving it a very close look.
