Hello,

I left my 1520 on my cars roof last night and drove off.

It slid off and smashed the screen to pieces. I was able to locate the phone after 15 minutes of driving around. I suspect it my have been driven over by another car as the button area is more flat than the rest of the phone.

The phone is still on, glass is totally shattered and coming off the phone, I can see the LCD has also leaked in one corner. It connected to my bluetooth and I was able to make a phone call. I could still have a conversation on the phone too, so it still works.

I have been quoted $349AUD to replace the LCD Screen and glass. My concern is that even if the LCD is replaced, the phone may have been driver over, so who knows what else is wrong with it.

Do you think it is worth replacing the screen? Or time for a new phone..? I have resorted to using the good old Nokia N97 mini lol..

Thanks for your help!

Wow. Bad, bad day.......

You are asking opinions, so mine is no. It is not worth fixing. There is no way even the tank-like Nokia 1520 is going to come back from that working well. Not if it was run over.

I say give it a moment of silence, and let it pass. Save that mney for a like-new second hand L1520 instead. Just not worth the risk of losing that money.

I also agree that it is not worth fixing. I converted $349 AUD to US Dollars and got $277. If this is accurate, you should be able to find another 1520 for about that price, at least refurbished if not brand new.

It sounds as if your motherboard may be still good. If that is the case then you could buy a bad ESN phone for under $100 and switch the boards. Then you'll be back in business.

If you were in the US I could rebuild the thing for under $200 USD.

I think this is a great plan, but it will cost more than $100, if everything else is fully functional.

More than likely you've got more than just a damaged screen. You've probably got a scratched camera lens, busted sensors, etc.

Get a refurbed 1520 or drop down and get a 735 or a 640XL until the next flagship comes out later this summer or in the early fall.

The OP said that he was still able to call people with it :winktongue:

I would just get a L640XL to hold you over until the L940XL comes out

I would put the smashed and flattened phone into a picture frame and hang it up as a reminder.

I am with those who recommend that you look for a used or refurbished phone. I bought a used USA model on Ebay for $209 USD. It looks new and works fine.
