I tried to plug my new Lumia 640 in to charge in my car and got a message about it charging too slowly and it wouldn't charge properly. I've used this same charger with a Lumia 710 and 520 without issues (well, no messages).

Is there a special voltage/amp rating needed for this phone? The charger I had is a generic 12v usb charger from supermarket.

Does anyone know where in the UK to get one or if not the spec of what's needed so I can track one down?

Cheers

Rob

12V in and (hopefully 5V out) but what amperage is it rated at? 2.1A is good, 1A or less is bad.

I would first ignore the dialog and see if it is actually slowly charging. I used to use a 1A car charger with it and it worked well enough for me.

Thanks all. I just checked and it's 5V out at 2.1A. The wall charger is, as you say, 750mA.

So if anything, the charger is supplying more than it should, not sure why it says its charging slowly?

There may be others who get the same message so OneDrive link to photo of charger below:

Try using Battery by Arthur Semenov to verify the actual charge rate. https://forums.windowscentral.com/e...e%2Fp%2Fbattery%2F9wzdncrfjc2z&token=e1Fw31iv

It may be an ironic message from the chip that regulates charge as the current is far above the stock charger.

2.1A is pushing 3x the stock charger output. It might be a safety protocol limiting the charge to protect the phone.

I use a 1A car charger and the battery charges (slowly) while doing navigation. I had to buy a PortaPow charge-only cable from Amazon. It basically removes the data from the USB connectors, so the phone thinks it's on an outlet, instead of a USB connection to a computer (which restricts charging to 500mA).
